NBA unveils new look for Memphis Grizzlies' home floor during in-season tournament

The Memphis Grizzlies’ hardwood floor inside FedExForum will have a different look for the team’s inaugural in-season tournament games.

The NBA announced on Monday that all 30 teams will have a specialized court for the home portion of the tournament. All teams will have the same template featuring a trophy at halfcourt with the team’s logo placed down the middle.

For the Grizzlies’ look, the bear will be two tones of brown instead of the blue that’s on the usual logo. This follows the blueprint of this season’s city edition jerseys. A full-court strip grey strip going from baseline to baseline is also included.

Teams will play on the courts through the quarterfinals of the tournament. The semifinals and championship game will take place in Las Vegas at T-Mobile Arena.

Memphis will begin its in-season tournament schedule on the road against the Portland Trail Blazers on Nov. 3. The first home game to see the new-look court will be against the Utah Jazz on Nov. 10.

Along with the Jazz and Blazers, the Grizzlies’ five-team group includes the Phoenix Suns and Los Angeles Lakers. Memphis will play its second home game on the special floor against the Suns on Nov. 24. The game against the Lakers will be on the road.

The Grizzlies are included in West Group A. Both the Eastern and Western conferences are made up of five teams in three groups.

After the four games against group opponents, eight teams will move on to the knockout rounds. That includes six group winners and two teams that have the best tiebreaker results. Head to head and point differential are the main two sources of tiebreakers.

The quarterfinals will begin on Dec. 4, and the championship game will be on Dec. 9. The tournament winning team will receive $500,000 each.

Teams that don’t make the quarterfinals will play two games against other teams that didn’t qualify.

With Dec. 19 being the earliest Ja Morant can return from a 25-game suspension, Memphis will be without its star point guard for the tournament.
