What NBA Twitter was saying when Nuggets got eliminated last year: ‘Please, just let Jokic have a healthy roster’
The Denver Nuggets won the 2022-23 NBA championship after beating the Miami Heat 4-1 in the Finals.
The Joker put on a historic performance in the playoffs, leading Denver to its first-ever title.
Last year, however, that wasn’t the case. The Nuggets were eliminated in the playoffs’ first round by the eventual champions, the Warriors (4-1). We take you back to what NBA Twitter was saying about the Nuggets and Nikola Jokic back then.
Charles Barkley’s top 10 players in the NBA currently:
1. Giannis Antetokounmpo
2. Lebron James
3. Joel Embiid
4. Luka Doncic
5. Jayson Tatum
6. Ja Morant
7. Devin Booker
8. Steph Curry
9. James Harden

2. George Mikan: 28.5
3. LeBron James: 28.2
4. NIKOLA JOKIC: 28.0— HoopsHype (@hoopshype) April 28, 2022
Draymond on Jokic: "Absolutely incredible player. There's a reason he was MVP last year. And that's probably the reason why he's going to be MVP again next year." pic.twitter.com/wBDUB75QiZ

Nikola Jokic, on if he's ever bothered by lack of respect.
"Couldn't care less, brother."
— Mike Singer (@msinger) April 28, 2022
DeMarcus Cousins on Nikola Jokic: "Outside of Russ, probably one of the most disrespected MVPs."
Said he doesn't get treated like an MVP.
— Mike Singer (@msinger) April 28, 2022
Nikola Jokic can be the best player on a team that wins an NBA title. I really believe that. The organization maximizing his window is literally the most important task in the history of the franchise.
— Zach Bye (@byesline) April 28, 2022
Nuggets don’t want to hear this now, but running it back next year, with Jokic, Barton, Gordon, a returning Murray and Porter, Jr (and, i’m assuming, a re-signed Cousins)…they’re gonna go on a deep postseason run in ’23.
— David Aldridge (@davidaldridgedc) April 28, 2022
Nikola Jokic is an absolute beast. Anyone questioning his MVP candidacy based on this series just didnt watch it.
— Grant Liffmann (@GrantLiffmann) April 28, 2022
For the record, I feel just fine about my (fictional) Nikola Jokic MVP vote.
— Tim MacMahon (@espn_macmahon) April 28, 2022
If you watched the last three games, and want to trash Jokic just to support your MVP candidate, or create a show topic— then you're being completely disingenuous.
— Justin Termine (@TermineRadio) April 28, 2022
The people slandering Jokic, just exposed themselves… they don’t know basketball with all due respect
— Mark Jackson’s Burner (@casualtakeking) April 28, 2022
Next time we watch the Denver Nuggets, Jamal Murray and Michael Porter Jr. will be playing.
— Rishi Oza (@RishOza_) April 28, 2022
Jokic wasn’t gonna beat the Warriors missing his 2nd and 3rd best player but he played amazing much respect
— mev 🏀🧸🌹 (@mevvybear) April 28, 2022
What a brilliant season from Nikola Jokic. Well on his way to being one of the greatest players ever. A true joy of a year. Just masterful.
— Jackson Frank (@jackfrank_jjf) April 28, 2022
Nikola Jokic did all he could vs. the Warriors:
25 PTS – 10 REBS – 6 ASTS – 48% FG
26 PTS – 11 REBS – 4 ASTS – 45% FG
37 PTS – 18 REBS – 5 ASTS – 63.6% FG
37 PTS – 8 REBS – 6 ASTS – 66.7% FG
30 PTS – 19 REBS – 8 ASTS – 66.7% FG— ClutchPoints (@ClutchPointsApp) April 28, 2022
Once again, Nikola Jokic failed to get his team as far in the playoffs as Carmelo Anthony's 2009 "Thuggets" squad, proving that Melo is still the greatest Nugget of all time.

Please…just let him have one healthy roster.

Jokic deserves better with all due respect, carried a team 2 years straight with all due respect

Jokić is a playoff choker.

Jokic time coming soon. He gonna get the chip the right way like Giannis. No trades, no building super teams. Legit.

Jokic had 30-19-8 in 31 minutes and people will say Embiid better 😭😭😭
— NBA SUPERFAN (@nbasup3rfan) April 28, 2022
For you Jokic fans. Did the others do enough? Damm yea and last layup by Curry he watched and did not even attempt to block it. Defense matters for an MVP and Devin Booker is ranked # 1 among 2 guards defensively in entire NBA. Don’t wanna hear it.
— Eddie A Johnson (@Jumpshot8) April 28, 2022
Bye Will Barton
Can't wait for next year
— Ben Justman (@BenJustman) April 28, 2022
i’m not mad man, jokic proved his greatness and will proved why he’s being traded we’re happy tonight.
— JARSLiME (@JARSLiME) April 28, 2022
Herculean season from Nikola Jokić. Something I’ll remember forever. As good as I’ve seen from anyone.
— Brendan Vogt (@BrendanVogt) April 28, 2022
Such a shame that Nikola Jokic wasn’t good enough to beat the Golden State Warriors by himself, but using the same precedent the media set for James Harden, this means Nikola Jokic is a playoff choker and should be banned from the league.
— ᵂᴵᴸᴸ (@BiasedHouston) April 28, 2022
Respect to Nikola Jokic.
That man is clearly the MVP and top 3 basketball player in the world.
— Guru (@DrGuru_) April 28, 2022
Denver going to be a problem with Murray back if he's right
— Jason Maples (@JJMaples55_MST) April 28, 2022
Jokic did everything he could this series, and if you take anything away from this series about Jokic other than how good he was, you’re just looking to hate
— Jack 🏹📋 (@murray_center27) April 28, 2022
I can’t wait to see a healthy Nuggets team against all of these cocky teams. All this extra showboating stuff is unnecessary.
— Jeremy Nicolls (@JeremyNicolls) April 28, 2022
Everyone's respect level for Jokic should be sky-high right now. Especially his haters. It took a fully loaded Warriors team going to a box-and-one to beat him. This is insane.
— Swipa (@SwipaCam) April 28, 2022
Atleast this series solidified the fact that Jokic > Curry

Jokic is doing everything he can, all on a bad hammy. I’m changing my MVP vote back to him.
— Big Cat (@BarstoolBigCat) April 28, 2022
Before this season started, I just assumed Jamal Murray would return at some point. Obviously didn’t know Michael Porter would get hurt and miss the whole season too. This Nuggets team getting to 48 wins and being remotely competitive against a healthy Warriors team is wild.
— Andy Bailey (@AndrewDBailey) April 28, 2022
Just impinge if the Warriors had to guard Jamal Murray in this series…I mean I think it should be clear that a healthy Nuggets might be the best team in the West.
— Swipa (@SwipaCam) April 28, 2022
Jokic gets scratched like 20 times a game. King of scratches all over his arms.
— Big Cat (@BarstoolBigCat) April 28, 2022
Jokic a beast man give that man two superstars
— Chris Harris (@ChrisHarrisJr) April 28, 2022
I'm glad we can all see that Jokic is the Best Player in this series.
