NBA reveals end-of-season tiebreaker results to set lottery odds and remaining draft order
The NBA set its lottery odds and the remaining draft order with a series of tiebreaker drawings on Monday.
The Sacramento Kings won their tiebreaker with the New Orleans Pelicans for the 12th spot in Thursday’s draft lottery. Both teams finished the regular season with 28-36 records. The Pelicans will be slotted 13th.
There is still a negligible difference in the lottery odds for both teams. Sacramento now has a 1.3 percent chance of landing the No. 1 overall pick in the lottery and a 6.2 percent shot at a top-four pick. New Orleans has a 1.2 percent chance at the first pick and a 5.7 percent shot at the top four. If neither team moves up in the lottery, the Kings will select one spot higher than the Pelicans in the Oct. 16 draft — a clear advantage.
Elsewhere, drawings determined the 21st through 23rd selections in the first round. The Houston Rockets, Oklahoma City Thunder and Utah Jazz all finished with 44-28 records. OKC won the drawing for the 21st pick, followed by the Rockets and Jazz. That order is reversed for second-round selections 51 through 53.
Houston sent its first-round pick to the Denver Nuggets in its trade for Robert Covington at the deadline.
The odds of landing the No. 1 pick for each of the 14 teams participating in Thursday’s draft lottery:
Golden State Warriors: 14 percent
Cleveland Cavaliers: 14 percent
Minnesota Timberwolves: 14 percent
Atlanta Hawks: 12.5 percent
Detroit Pistons: 10.5 percent
New York Knicks: 9.0 percent
Chicago Bulls: 7.5 percent
Charlotte Hornets: 6.0 percent
Washington Wizards: 4.5 percent
Phoenix Suns: 3.0 percent
San Antonio Spurs: 2.0 percent
Sacramento Kings: 1.3 percent
New Orleans Pelicans: 1.2 percent
Memphis Grizzlies: 0.5 percent
The Grizzlies’ pick will be conveyed to the Boston Celtics if Memphis does not move into the top four.
The draft order for the rest of the first round:
Minnesota Timberwolves (from Brooklyn Nets)
Brooklyn Nets (from Philadelphia 76ers)
Philadelphia 76ers (from Oklahoma City Thunder)
Denver Nuggets (from Houston Rockets)
Utah Jazz
Milwaukee Bucks (from Indiana Pacers)
Oklahoma City Thunder (from Denver Nuggets)
Boston Celtics
New York Knicks (from Los Angeles Clippers)
Boston Celtics (from Milwaukee Bucks)
