NBA draft rewind: Sixers select Jrue Holiday in Round 1 of 2009 draft

The Philadelphia 76ers are without a draft pick in 2023, so it’s a good time to look back at some past draft picks the franchise has made.

The Sixers had another really solid 2008-09 season. They continued to build with Andre Iguodala and Andre Miller leading the way and they took a 2-1 series lead in Round 1 against the Orlando Magic.

However, just like the 2008 playoffs, the Sixers saw that 2-1 lead slip away and Philadelphia fell to the Magic in six games. Iguodala and Miller had some good moments, but the Sixers needed more.

With the 17th pick in the 2009 draft, Philadelphia selected Jrue Holiday out of UCLA. In his rookie season, Holiday averaged 8.0 points and 3.8 assists while beginning to take over as the starting point guard.

In the 2010-11 season, Holiday started all 82 games and guided the Sixers to the playoffs while averaging 14.0 points, 6.5 assists, and 4.0 rebounds.

In his fourth and final season in Philadelphia, Holiday averaged 17.7 points, 8.0 assists, and 4.2 rebounds while being named an All-Star in 2013. He then was traded to the New Orleans Pelicans for Nerlens Noel and thus kicking off The Process. He is now with the Milwaukee Bucks and won a title in 2021.
