Nationally-ranked Cedar Ridge takes 24-game win streak into District 25-6A home stretch
Nationally-ranked Cedar Ridge won its 24th straight game Friday, beating defending District 25-6A champion Round Rock 11-0.
The visiting Raiders scored four times in the top of the first inning and capped off the night with a six-run sixth inning that shortened the game to a six-inning, run-rule contest. Caitlin Benningfield, London Collins and Gabby Zulfekar had three hits each with Benningfield and Zulfekar driving in three runs each. Benningfield went the distance in the circle, striking out nine and allowing only two hits.
Cedar Ridge lost its season opener 5-4 to Leander and has outscored the last 24 opponents 200-27.
Around the Austin area
In other district action, Vista Ridge blasted Vandegrift 16-1 as Brooke Wells had four hits, including three home runs, while Sayler Bourland had four singles, Abby Anderson had two hits and Madilynne Agan knocked four hits, including a home run as the Rangers moved into second place and will face Round Rock on Friday. Stony Point secured a playoff berth by beating McNeil 18-0 and Westwood beat Manor 10-1.
District 26-6A: Dripping Springs and Lake Travis are tied atop 26-6A as the resurgent Tigers notched a 2-1 win over Lake Travis. Haiden Anderson scattered five hits and struck out three while coming up huge at the plate with RBIs in the fourth and seventh innings to drive in both Tigers runs. Lake Travis freshman Kamdyn Ingram had three hits and scored the only Cavaliers run when driven home by Madison Pinzon. The win was critical for Dripping Springs, which had lost 3-2 in nine innings to Westlake earlier in the week. ... Bowie won twice as the Dawgs beet Johnson 5-3 as Valeria Feeney had three RBIs and Kate Bookidis hurled the complete game, fanning seven. And slugging catcher Anya German had four hits to lead Bowie past Akins 14-3 in six innings.
Liberty Hill beats Lockhart 12-1: Aubri Ettinger slammed three hits, scored three runs, and drove in a pair of runs. Maddie Kingslien had a huge game with four RBIs coming on a bases-loaded double and an RBI sacrifice fly.
Hays edges Rouse 3-1: Kaitlyn Cowan scored twice while Elaina Villegas rapped out two hits. Rouse rebounded by beating Lockhart 12-0. Blakely Barber started in the circle for Rouse and struck out eight. ... Georgetown remains a game ahead of both East View and Elgin after the Eagles battered Cedar Creek 14-1. Elgin, which gave the Eagles their first district loss of the season two weeks ago, stayed a game back by beating Bastrop 10-1.
LASA leads 24-5A: LASA pounded out 13 hits and scored 22 runs to remain in first place in District 24-5A as the Raptors beat Northeast Early College 22-7. Rose Harrelson led the Raptors with three hits, all triples, and drove in five runs.
Hyde Park pounds St. Anthony 11-0: Taylor Haywood had two home runs while pitching her 22nd win and Cariana Stout has hit five homers in the past four games. Standout slugger Skye Perez collected her team-record 12th home run; Hyde Park has smacked 47 homers on the season.
Llano rises to top honors
Team of the week: Llano. The state-ranked Yellowjackets won 12-0 twice last week, beating Florence and Ingram Moore behind the play of Gwyn Burnett and Jayme Duroy and Skylar Brown, who pitched five-inning no-hitters in both wins, striking out 13 in each game.
