The 2023 World Series stage is set with the Texas Rangers finding their first appearance back to the championship series in 12 years and the Arizona Diamondbacks' first appearance since 2001. Major League Baseball has announced that Grammy Award-winning musician H.E.R. will perform for the national anthem for Game 1 and the 2023 Boys & Girls Clubs of America's National Youth Talent Performer, Pearle Peterson, will perform for Game 2. The MLB has not released who will perform for the following World Series games.

Big bucks, bright GM, dugout legend: How Rangers' 'unbelievable year' reached World Series

Who is H.E.R.?

Gabriella Sarmiento Wilson is professionally known as H.E.R. and is an acronym for "Having Everything Revealed." H.E.R. is a R&B singer, songwriter, and actress.

H.E.R. performed "America the Beautiful" at Super Bowl LV and has also had performances at the 72nd Emmy Awards, the Oscars and multiple Grammy award shows. H.E.R. starred in A.B.C.'s 'Beauty and the Beast: A 30th Celebration' as Belle and will be in 'The Color Purple,' to be released in Dec. 2023.

H.E.R. received her first Grammy nomination, including for Best New Artist and Best R&B Song, at the 61st Grammy Awards. Since then, she has won five Grammys and has had 25 Grammy nominations. H.E.R. has also won one Academy Award and one Emmy.

Who is Pearle Peterson?

Pearle Peterson is a member of the Boys & Girls Club of the Olympic Peninsula in Sequim, Washington. Peterson has been a club member for 11 years and has participated in every talent show the organization offers. Peterson recently won the 2023 Boys & Girls Clubs of America’s National Youth Talent Performer which gave her the opportunity to showcase her singing talent to over 3,000 Boys & Girls members at the national conference.

The Boys & Girls Clubs of America partners with Major League Baseball, and each year at the World Series, the organization allows a member to deliver the game ball to the mound and, this year, the opportunity to sing the National Anthem.

Peterson said it hasn't set in that she gets to sing the national anthem on one of the biggest sports stages, when asked how she felt about being asked to perform in an interview with the Boys & Girls Club of America.

“Singing at the World Series doesn’t feel real,” Peterson said. “The excitement and the support I am feeling is also surreal.”
