The hosts won 2-0 over CF Monterrey in Tuesday's semifinal to advance to Saturday's match, while Inter Miami won 4-1 at the Philadelphia Union.
This will be Nashville SC's first match against Messi, one of the game's all-time greatest players. At age 36, Messi was just on Thursday named as a finalist for UEFA Men's Player of the Year award for the 2022-23 season. Messi joined Inter Miami from Paris Saint-Germain on July 15, and the Leagues Cup has served as his first games with the club.
Nashville SC, with reigning MLS MVP Hany Mukhtar, has won games in the competition against Liga MX stalwarts Club America and Monterrey. The addition of former Nottingham Forest forward Sam Surridge has boosted Nashville SC's attack even while coming off the bench.
