New York Islanders 2, Nashville Predators 0: Semyon Varlamov shuts out Preds

The Nashville Predators fell 2-0 to the New York Islanders on Saturday at UBS Arena, missing an opportunity to inch closer to clinching a playoff spot.

After a scoreless first period, Noah Dobson scored for the Islanders with 10:53 left in the second period to make it 1-0. The Predators put up 31 shots in the second and third period combined, but a stifling Islanders defense prevented Nashville from getting on the board.

The Islanders blocked 33 shots in front of Semyon Varlamov, who played excellent in net. He made 40 saves for his 11th win and third shutout of the season.

The Predators (44-29-4) remain in the first wild card position with 92 points, while the Islanders (35-27-15) remain in third place in the Metropolitan Division with 85 points.
