Predators outlast Islanders after Alexandre Carrier's go-ahead goal with 7.9 seconds left

The Nashville Predators got several bad bounces in their last home game, a loss to Anaheim on Tuesday.

All it took was one fortunate bounce for the Predators in Saturday's game against the New York Islanders inside Bridgestone Arena.

Alexandre Carrier got the credit for the bouncing game-winning goal with 7.9 seconds left to give Nashville the 3-1 victory over the Islanders.

Carrier's shot broke the stick of Islanders defenseman Scott Mayfield, then flew over the shoulder of Islanders goaltender Ilya Sorokin for the go-ahead score.

The game remained scoreless for the first 52 minutes until a Jean-Gabriel Pageau deflection goal gave the Islanders the 1-0 lead.

Nashville countered late in a power play goal by Luke Evangelista with less than five minutes to play. It remained 1-1 until Carrier's late goal.

Juuso Parssinen completed the scoring with an empty-net goal with under a second to play.

Juuse Saros was very good all game, making a couple excellent saves on Islanders chances in the first two periods. Saros saved 24 of 25 shots and was the game's first star.

Recap the Predators' victory below:

Nashville Predators score, live updates, highlights vs. New York Islanders

Alexandre Carrier gives Predators the lead with 7.9 seconds left

What a crazy bounce off a broken stick by Alexandre Carrier. The Predators lead.

Islanders 1, Predators 1 at 15:08 of the third period: Luke Evangelista ties the game on the power play

Late in a Predators power play, Luke Evangelista buries a shot under the bar from the slot to tie the game. It's Evangelista's eight goal of the season and his first career power-play goal.

Nashville 1, NY Islanders 1. It's all to play for.

Islanders 1, Predators 0 at 12:00 of the third period: Isles open the scoring

Nashville gets pinned in its defensive end, and the Islanders take advantage. Jean-Gabriel Pageau gets the goal on a deflection in front of Juuse Saros.

Isles lead 1-0. Can the Preds get back in it?

Islanders 0, Predators 0 after two periods

The two teams are scoreless through 40 minutes. Juuse Saros has been the star tonight, saving all 18 shots and making a couple highlight-reel stops.

Scoreless after one period

Like Friday night, the game begins with a scoreless first period. A much more interesting period, though, with the Predators growing into the game.

The highlight of the period was a Juuse Saros save of a Pierre Engvall point-blank shot.

The Islanders lead the shot total, 9-7.

Juuse Saros in goal tonight

Juuse Saros will start in goal for the Predators in Saturday's game. Kevin Lankinen was the goalie in Friday's win, so the two split the back-to-back.

Otherwise, the lineup remains the same. Cody Glass and Kiefer Sherwood are the healthy scratches.

Ilya Sorokin is the Isles' goaltender tonight.
