Philip Tomasino's 2 goals lead Nashville Predators past Flyers; Juuse Saros moves up wins list

The Nashville Predators took their fathers on the trip to Philadelphia, where team topped the Flyers 4-2 in a one-off road game on Thursday night.

In the process, Predators goalie Juuse Saros moved into second place for career victories in franchise history, passing Tomas Vokoun with his 162nd.

Pekka Rinne is first with 369.

Saros made 32 saves in a game that center Ryan O'Reilly left in the final seconds with an apparent injury.

Philip Tomasino’s first career two-goal game ignited a victory that also included another ejection of a Predators player. Yakov Trenin was assessed a game misconduct after his hit on Morgan Frost during the second period.

Tomasino’s goal with 4 minutes, 1 second left in regulation clinched it.

Cole Smith’s shorthanded goal in the first period put the Predators on the board and gave Smith a career high in that department.

Filip Forsberg picked up two assists to add to his team-leading total (22).

Nashville was coming off a 5-2 loss to the Vancouver Canucks on Tuesday that ended their most recent winning streak at four games. It also ended Saros' career-high winning streak at six.

Forwards Cody Glass and Juuso Parssinen were healthy scratches and Tommy Novak played in his 100th career game.

The Predators (19-14-0) has won 14 of their last 18 and occupy the top wild-card spot in the Western Conference.

The Flyers had won three in a row and were on a 10-game point streak.

Gustav Nyquist's fifth goal of the season, an empty-netter with less than a second left, was assisted by Filip Forsberg, who extended his team lead in that department (22).

Tomasino's second goal of game gives Predators lead

Philip Tomasino's fourth goal of the season and second of the game came with 4:01 left in the third period to give the Predators a 3-2 lead against the Flyers. It marked the first multi-goal game in Tomasino's career.

Colton Sissons earned his second assist of the game on the play.

Predators forward Yakov Trenin was assessed a five-minute major penalty for boarding and given a game misconduct after his hit on the Flyers' Morgan Frost 12:37 into the second period.

Philip Tomasino pulls Predators into 2-2 tie

Philip Tomasino's goal 39 seconds after the Flyers retook the lead tied the score 2-2. It was Tomasino's third goal of the season. Filip Forsberg picked up his team-best 21st assist. Tommy Novak, playing in his 100th career game, also was credited with an assist.

Predators forward Cole Smith scored a shorthanded goal 1:05 into the second period to tie the score 1-1. It was his fifth goal of the season, a career high, and extended his points streak to a career-high five games.

Colton Sissons earned his seventh assist of the season.

Morgan Frost scores goal from behind Predators' net

The puck bounced off Predators defenseman Alexandre Carrier's stick, then off the skate of the Flyers' Morgan Frost, then over the back of the net, off of Juuse Saros's back and then in just 1:31 into the first to give the home team a 1-0 lead.

It was Frost's fourth goal of the season.
