Here are my Nashville football's top performers from Week 1: Thomas Santel's 533 total yards among highlights

The 2023 TSSAA football season is underway.

Here are my Nashville area high school football players that stood out in Week 1 of the season.

Dominic Reed, Centennial: Reed had seven carries for 100 yards, but scored four times in a 34-14 win over Franklin.

Montae Baldwin, Columbia Academy: Baldwin ran 23 times for 173 yards and two TDs. He also had three catches for 42 yards in a 33-31 double-overtime loss to MTCS.

Ben Franklin, Cornersville: Franklin rushed for 303 yards on 18 carries and scored four touchdowns in Cornersville's 43-17 win over Webb School-Bell Buckle.

Wesley Gober, DCA: Gober ran for 235 yards on 28 carries and scored four TDs with a 2-point conversion in a 42-7 win over Ezell-Harding.

Isaiah Groves, East Robertson: Groves, a junior, rushed for 210 yards on 21 carries and scored three total TDs in East Robertson's 42-20 win over Liberty Creek.

JoJo Crump, Father Ryan: Crump was 11-of-20 passing for 169 yards and had four touchdowns in a 50-3 rout of John Overton.

Ty Clark III, FRA: Clark had seven carries for 131 yards with three TDs in a 49-7 win over Kenwood. He also had one catch for 22 yards.

Tucker Wolf, Grace Christian: Wolf caught six passes for 125 yards and had two TDs in a 34-6 over Freedom Prep.

Kannon Burroughs, Green Hill: Burroughs had 269 total yards in Green Hill's 44-13 win over Northeast. He threw for 156 yards and ran for 113 yards and finished with four total TDS — three passing and one rushing.

Kaiki Baker, Hillsboro: Baker had four catches for 90 yards and a TD in Hillsboro's 40-7 win over McGavock. Baker also had eight tackles and two interceptions. He returned one pick for a TD.

Cam Shields, James Lawson: Shields had 19 carries for 112 yards and made eight tackles in Lawson's 18-15 win over Cheatham County in the Lightning's first varsity game in school history.

Eli Wilson, MTCS: Wilson scored three TDs — two on the ground and one receiving in the Cougars' 33-31 double overtime win over Columbia Academy.

Zion Tamaska, Nolensville: Tamaska had 22 carries for 136 yards and two TDs in a 21-20 win over Rockvale.

Ashton Jones, Oakland: Jones ran 18 ties for 144 yards and scored two TDs in a 34-14 win over Independence.

Daune Morris, Oakland: Morris had five carries for 144 yards and two touchdowns (66, 62) while adding three receptions for 26 yards in a 34-14 win over Independence.

Keshawn Tarleton, Pearl-Cohn: Tarleton was 11-of-16 passing for 216 yards with two TDs in a 21-14 win over MBA.

Braden Graham, Riverdale: Graham was 17-of-22 passing for 261 yards with five touchdowns in a 36-0 win over Rutherford County rival Smyrna.

HIGGINS OFF TO FAST START: Tennessee football recruit Donovan Higgins has 2 TD catches as Pearl-Cohn tops MBA

Kam Frierson, Rockvale: Frierson recorded 12 tackles and had two sacks. He also recovered a fumble for a touchdown.

Thomas Santel, Siegel: Santel was 14-of-17 passing for 320 yards and five TDs. He also had 14 carries for 213 yards and two rushing TDs in a 55-43 win over Shelbyville.

Javarian Otey, Stewards Creek: Otey scored three touchdowns in Stewarts Creek's 21-7 win over Tullahoma. He had 140 rushing yards with two TDs and caught a 90-yard TD pass with six seconds left in the first half.
