Nashville area girls high school basketball Small Class rankings: Who is No. 1?

The Tennessean’s first Small Class girls basketball rankings for 2023-24 have been released.

The Small Class list consists of schools in Class 1A, 2A and Division II-A.

1. York Institute (12-3) — York has won 11 of its last 12 games behind the play of Miss Basketball candidate Reese Beaty. That includes wins over Oakland, Cookeville and Webb School - Bell Buckle. This week: at Cookeville (Thursday); at Jackson County (Friday).

2. Loretto (15-1) — The Lady Mustangs’ only loss is to Good Hope (Alabama). Ally Weathers is averaging 18 points. This week: vs. Moore County (Tuesday); vs. Summertown (Friday). 

3. PCA (11-3) — PCA has won seven games in a row. Senior Daisy Gale scored 29 points last Friday to eclipse the 1,000-point mark for her career. This week: vs. USN (Tuesday); at Columbia Academy (Friday). 

4. Wayne County (13-3) — Last year’s Class 1A state runner-up has lost to just two in-state teams, including No. 2 Loretto, behind the play of Miss Basketball candidate Blair Baugus. This week: at Cookeville (Thursday); at Jackson County (Friday). 

5. Summertown (16-3) — Two of the Lady Eagles’ three losses are to powers Wayne County and Upperman. Karlie Campbell (12.7 ppg) and Alivia Riggs (11.2 ppg) have been a productive tandem. This week: at Wayne County (Tuesday); at Loretto (Friday).

6. Moore County (14-4) — The Lady Raiders have won nine of 10. Their only losses are to Loretto, Summertown and Upperman. This week: at Loretto (Tuesday); vs. Fayetteville (Friday).

7. Cheatham County (16-2) — Cheatham has split two games with No. 7 Sycamore and picked up a good win against East Hickman last week as part of a five-game win streak. This week: vs. White House (Tuesday); at Harpeth (Friday). 

8. Pearl-Cohn (9-4) — Erianna Thomas is averaging 16.8 points, 5.5 rebounds, 6 assists and 4.3 steals for the Lady Firebirds, who have a win over Webb School - Bell Buckle. This week: vs. Beech (Tuesday); at Sycamore (Friday).

9. East Nashville (9-2) — The Eagles' win over Blackman is one of the best among ranked teams. This week: at Hillsboro (Thursday); at Republic (Friday); at St. Cecilia (Saturday). 

10. Pickett County (12-2) — The Lady Bobcats have won eight consecutive games. Their only losses are to Cumberland County. This week: at Gordonsville (Tuesday); vs. Red Boiling Springs (Friday).
