Naples golfer Noah Kent qualifies for next month's U.S. Junior Amateur Championships

Naples golfer Noah Kent shot 68 Monday to grab a share of first place at a U.S. Junior Amateur qualifier in Ames, Iowa.

Kent, who graduated from Gulf Coast High School in May and will play at the University of Iowa, earned an automatic berth into the U.S. Junior Amateur Championship thanks to his performance in the qualifier. The tournament is set for July 24-29 at Daniel Island Club in Charleston, S.C.

A two-time Southwest Florida Boys Golfer of the Year, Kent shot 33 on the back nine Monday at the Ames Golf & Country Club, including three straight birdies on Nos. 16-18 to secure his spot in the championship.

A field of 264 golfers will compete at the U.S. Junior Amateur with the top 64 qualifying for match play following two rounds of stroke play. Notable former Junior champs include Johnny Miller (1964), David Duval (1989), Tiger Woods (1991-93), Jordan Spieth (2009, 2011) and Scottie Scheffler (2013).
