Munchak, Schiano both deny interest in Penn State

Tampa Bay coach Greg Schiano and Tennessee coach Mike Munchak both denied interest in the possible vacancy at Penn State if Nittany Lions coach Bill O’Brien take a job with an NFL team this offseason.

Schiano said earlier this week that he has no interest in returning to Penn State, where he was an assistant. Munchak strongly denied a report that both he and Schiano had been in contact with the school. Munchak played at Penn State before being drafted in the first round in 1982. Munchak has spent his entire NFL career with the Houston Oilers/Tennessee Titans.

Both Schiano and Munchak are on the hot seat with their respective teams. In both situa-tions, ownership would like to keep the coaches but each is weighing whether the coaches have lost authority with the team. In addition, people close to Schiano feel he may prefer to end up back in the college ranks after having trouble dealing with professional players.
