How much does the Masters winner get? Prize, payout breakdown

We're a day away from learning who slips on the green jacket and take home some serious prize money.

The 2024 Masters wraps up Sunday from the gorgeous greens of Augusta National Golf Club in Augusta, Georgia. The winner gets not only the legendary jacket, but also honorary membership to Augusta and a lifetime invitation to play the Masters (yes, even if he plays for LIV Golf). He'll also take home a replica Masters trophy, a gold coin and, oh right, a cool couple million dollars.

The Masters purse is kept under wraps until the weekend, when the finish line is within sight (and when we know who's made the cut). Last year's Masters saw a record payout, and the 2024 purse is even higher. Here's what you need to know about the prize winnings from Augusta.

How much does Masters winner get in 2024?

The 2024 Masters winner will get $3.6 million. Last year's Masters winner, Jon Rahm, took home $3.24 million, which was a tournament record.

What is the purse for the Masters?

The purse is the overall prize money that goes to each player. The Masters announced late Saturday morning that the 2024 purse is $20 million, $2 million higher than last year's then-record $18 million.

Last year saw an increase of $3 million over 2022 and up $6.5 million from 2021.

What is the payout for the Masters?

Here's how the purse breaks down for the 2024 Masters:

Here's how the top 5 breaks down compared to last year's numbers:

  • 1st place: $3.6 million (up from $3.24 million in 2023)

  • 2nd place: $2.16 million (up from $1.944 million)

  • 3rd place: $1.36 million (up from $1.224 million)

  • 4th place: $960,000 (up from $864,000)

  • 5th place: $800,000 (up from $720,000)

Here's how the total purse broke down for the 2023 Masters. Note that the actual winnings for some spots are different from those listed above because of ties:

Players who missed the cut got $10,000 each. Amateurs received no money prizes.

How much do caddies make at the Masters?

It's not clear just how much pro golfers' caddies make. Former PGA Tour caddie Michael Collins said in 2021 that most caddies operate on a "10-7-5" deal: "10% for a win, 7% for a top 10, 5% for everything else," according to Business Insider.

If that's the case, then for Jon Rahm's $3.24 million payday for winning the 2023 Masters, his caddie would have taken home $324,000. The caddies for Phil Mickelson and Brooks Koepka, who made $1.584 million for tying for second, would have gotten $110,880. For a player who missed the cut last last year and got $10,000, his caddie would have pocketed $500.

Did Tiger Woods make the cut at the Masters 2024?

For a record 24th consecutive year, Tiger Woods made it to the weekend at the Masters. The five-time Masters champ shot an even-par 72 on Friday for a 1-over finish through two rounds. Woods was previously tied with Fred Couples and Gary Player for the most consecutive cuts at the Masters.

Who missed the cut at the Masters? Who made the cut at the Masters?

While 60 players finished below the cut line of 6 over par, 15 players did not. Among those who missed the cut are Sergio Garcia, Zach Johnson, Jordan Spieth and Bubba Watson.
