Mount Union football team beats John Carroll, wins 34th Ohio Athletic Conference title

UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS — Another year, another Ohio Athletic Conference championship for the Mount Union football team.

The second-ranked Purple Raiders clinched their 34th conference title Saturday with a 49-14 win over No. 13 John Carroll. The victory also secures Mount Union (9-0, 8-0) a berth in the NCAA Division III playoffs for the 33rd time.

The 35-point win was the Purple Raiders' largest margin of victory over the Blue Streaks since 2012. Mount Union also extended its winning streak over John Carroll to seven games.

Purple Raiders receiver Wayne Ruby finished with 10 catches for 137 yards and a touchdown. It's his third straight 100-yard receiving game and the 25th of his career.

John Roland led the defense with a career-high nine tackles. Josh Jones also had his fifth interception, tying him for most in the OAC this season.

Walsh loses fifth straight

NORTH CANTON — Hillsdale built a 21-3 halftime lead and went on to beat Walsh 28-3 at Larry Staudt Field.

Dalys Jett threw for 171 yards for the Cavaliers (3-7, 1-7), who lost their fifth straight. Walsh's only points came on a 19-yard Trent Doerfler field goal in the second quarter.
