Most of Arkansas’ meetings with Florida have taken place away from home
Arkansas and Florida have met 12 times on the gridiron.
The Gators are 10-2 all-time against the good guys, but only four of those meetings have taken place in Fayetteville.
Twice, they’ve met in the SEC Championship game in Atlanta. Florida won both of those matchups.
1995 was the first one. That was during the Steve Spurrier heyday and an upstart Razorback team lost star running back Madre Hill early to an ACL tear and ultimately lost 34-3.
The second one was a lot harder to swallow. The 2006 team had won 10 consecutive games and won the Western Division with Darren McFadden on his way to a Heisman finalist and Doak Walker Award season.
Florida took an early 17-0 lead and looked like it would be a rout. But Casey Dick found Marcus Monk on a go route late in the first half and cut it to 10 at intermission.
Coming out of halftime, the Razorbacks got an interception, McFadden threw a touchdown to Felix Jones and it was 17-14.
Antwain Robinson would then pick off a Chris Leak shovel pass and return it all the way for a touchdown and midway through the third quarter, Arkansas was in control at 21-17.
Urban Meyer had actually just called his last timeout late in the third quarter and elected to punt to the Razorbacks.
Then Reggie Fish happened.
His attempt at fielding a punt over his head backing into his own end zone went as miserably as it sounds, Florida recovered the muffed punt for a touchdown and Arkansas lost all momentum.
The Gators ended up winning 38-28 and won the national title a month later.
Arkansas finally beat Florida in 2016 in the regular season, one of Bret Bielema’s final solid victories as head coach of the Razorbacks.
Other than that, it’s been mostly heartache for Arkansas against Florida.
