Morgan State 81, VMI 80

Morgan State's Ian Chiles made a layup at the buzzer off a court-length pass from Thair Heath as the visiting Bears won 81-80 over Virginia Military Institute on Saturday.

VMI's Stan Okoye made the only two field goals in overtime for either team before Chiles' layup. Rodney Glasgow's missed jumper for VMI with 3 seconds left set the stage for Chiles' heroics with 2.2 seconds remaining.

Morgan State (2-4) won the game despite missing all 14 of its three-point attempts and committing 22 turnovers. The Bears also failed to make a field goal from 3:53 left in regulation until Chiles made the game-winning layup.

Morgan State's Anthony Hubbard and Shaquille Duncan fueled a second-half rally leading the Bears to a six-point lead after they trailed by as many as 13 points just after halftime.

Hubbard scored 10 of his 14 points in the second half and Duncan added nine. Duncan, who was 8 of 8 from the field but 1 of 9 from the free-throw line, made one of two free throws with 2:36 left in regulation to give Morgan State a 73-68 lead.

The Bears failed to score in the remainder of regulation. Duncan missed two free-throw attempts with 21 seconds left and Morgan State leading 73-71. Glasgow tied the game with 10 seconds remaining with two free throws.

Morgan State, in the midst of a seven-game road swing, do not play again until Dec. 16 at Illinois State. VMI (4-4) hosts Virginia University of Lynchburg on Monday.
