Morgan Edelman, DWU women nab road win over Hastings

Feb. 2—HASTINGS, Neb. — A nearly perfect offensive performance by Morgan Edelman fueled Dakota Wesleyan women's basketball to victory in a road test Friday night.

Edelman scored 20 points on 8-of-9 shooting, added nine rebounds and three assists, and the Tigers pulled away from Hastings for a 75-64 win.

The victory marks the fourth consecutive win for the Tigers (16-5, 11-4 in GPAC) and keeps the team in a stronghold for third place in the conference.

Aiding Edelman in the scoring effort was Emma Yost, who recorded 17 points on 6-of-16 shooting and 10 rebounds, and Shalayne Nagel, who was 5-of-10 from the field for 13 points. The Tigers also corralled 21 offensive rebounds, which translated into 18 second chance points.

DWU, which outshot Hastings from the field 45.8 percent to 41.5 percent, separated itself from the Broncos in the third quarter, using a 15-6 run to turn a one-point lead into a 54-44 lead to end the quarter. The rally was spurred by a balanced attack from the Tigers, including layups from Edelman and Nagel, and a 3-point jumper from Taliyah Hayes.

In the fourth quarter, Nagel hit a 3-pointer to expand the lead to 14 points with 5:25 remaining, and DWU led by as much as 16 points.

Before DWU's run, Hastings stayed stride-for-stride with the visitors, matching the Tigers at 15 points after the first quarter and trailing just 33-30 at halftime. For the game, Bailey Kissinger led the Broncos with 22 points, while Mariyah Avila had 16 points.

DWU will turn around and face Doane at 1 p.m. Saturday in Crete, Nebraska.
