Montgomery-area high school baseball top five teams trending for the week of March 27

We have reached the midway point of the Alabama high school baseball season. Several River Region teams are off to hot starts as region play begins.

Each week, The Montgomery Advertiser will rank the top five teams in the area, regardless of classification. Here are the top-5 teams in the Montgomery-area, regardless of classification, for results through March 26:

1. Elmore County

After falling in back-to-back games earlier this season to Trinity and Valley, Elmore County has won its last eight games and is undefeated in region play sitting at 17-2. Jaden Eason leads the team with a 0.58 ERA and Shea Darnold leads with a batting average of .550. Senior Brandon White has 14 stolen bases this season showing off the depth on this Panthers roster.

2. Pike Road

In a competitive Class 6A, Pike Road was left out of the ASWA top 10 rankings last week despite being 12-4 at the time. However, the Patriots veteran makeup on this roster has them as favorites for a deep postseason run. With captains Drew Britton and Cody Markam leading the way for the Patriots, head coach Allen Ponder expects nothing but success from the program this season.

3. Saint James

Before the Trojans back-to-back against Montgomery Academy, they have won their last four games ranking No. 3 in the ASWA Class 3A rankings. The pitching core of Charlie Cutler and Tabor Offord is a lethal combination for opposing batters. With early victories over Trinity and Stanhope Elmore, Saint James can be a dangerous team to matchup against.

4. Trinity

Trinity finished No. 7 in the first ASWA Class 4A top 10 rankings last week and senior Brady Rascoll is a huge reason for that. He currently leads the team in batting average and on-base percentage, Fleming Hall leads the wildcats in home runs and Gavin Hunter leads the team with a 0.60 ERA. After an early season victory over Elmore County, Trinity can compete with some of the best programs in the area.

5. Prattville Christian

The duo of Bryce Masters and Blake Bowman have been the anchors for the Panthers team this season. Bowman finished with 10 strikeouts during the Gulf Shores Spring Break tournament as Prattville Christian finished 3-1 during that event. Masters leads the team in batting average and on-base percentage.

Others nominated: Montgomery Academy, Prattville, Holtville, Opp, Brantley, Edgewood Academy, Lowndes Academy.
