Monroe and Bedford roll to easy girls basketball league victories

ANN ARBOR – Hayven Neddo scored 11 of her season-high 17 points in the second quarter to lead Monroe to a 68-27 victory over Ann Arbor Huron Friday night.

The Trojans (5-9) snapped a four-game losing streak.

“Tonight, we played our most complete game,” Monroe coach Trent Moody said. “We had nine girls score, we ran sets well and we were pretty efficient.

“Hayven Neddo shot the ball the best she’s shot it all year tonight. We ran the floor extremely well and finished at the rim.”

Sophia Bussell added 16 points and Jillan Roberts matched her season best with 12.

Bedford wins without coach

ANN ARBOR – Bedford made it two straight wins without coach Bill Ryan, rolling over Ann Arbor Skyline 62-23 Friday night.

Ryan, who expects to return next week after a heart procedure on Wednesday, followed the game at home via streaming play-by-play. His team beat Monroe 52-25 Thursday.

“In both games, we were pretty comfortably in front after the first quarter,” Ryan said. “That was nice.”

The Mules led 17-2 after one quarter and 28-11 at halftime Friday.

Victory Gray scored 13 of her season-high 22 points in the first quarter to get Bedford (11-1) rolling toward its 11th consecutive victory. Payton Pudlowski added 11 points and Aubrey Hensley 9.

Flat Rock gets revenge

CARLETON – Airport drilled Flat Rock 53-30 when the teams met earlier this season, but a different Flat Rock team showed up Friday night for a 59-34 win.

“We handled their pressure much better compared to our last game with them and everything just clicked,” Flat Rock coach Brian Kryk said after watching his team improve to 9-6. “It was a combination of a great defensive effort, patient offense, and a ton of heart.”

Madleen Hussein and Addison Kopp paced the Ram offense with 16 and 13 points, respectively. Lily Klein racked up 12 points and 11 rebounds and McKenna Williams led with 12 rebounds.

Freshman Sophia Mator scored 9 points for Airport (9-5).

“We didn’t play well and Flat Rick did,” Airport coach Darrell Mossburg said. “We had no answer.”

Wourman leads Milan

MILAN – Malea Wourman scored 12 of her 22 points in the first quarter as Milan bolted out to a 20-6 lead in the opening quarter and cruised past Jefferson 50-39 Friday night.

Emily Bladen added 12 points to help Milan (4-9) snap a six-game losing streak.

Jefferson (4-12) got 10 points each from Anna Boggs and Jenna Flint.

Huron avenges loss

NEW BOSTON – New Boston Huron avenged a 10-point loss earlier this season with a 41-31 victory over Grosse Ile Friday night.

It was the second straight win for Huron (7-6) since snapping a four-game losing streak.

Lila Clements led the way with 13 points and her younger sister Nina tossed in 9.
