Saturday results: GlenOak stays alive in Federal League baseball title picture with win

GLENOAK 4, JACKSON 3  The Golden Eagles scored four runs in the final two innings to rally past visiting Jackson on Saturday night and stay alive for a piece of the Federal League title.

Trailing 3-0, the Golden Eagles scored three times in the bottom of the sixth inning to tie the score. They won it in the seventh when Jackson Boles was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded and one out.

GlenOak (16-7, 8-2) needs to sweep Lake in its two remaining league games to clinch a share of the championship with Jackson (20-6, 10-2). The Golden Eagles seek their first league title in 12 years.

Preston Reich was 2-for-2 with an RBI for GlenOak. John Birchler got the win pitching one scoreless inning in relief of starter Ben Sibert, who allowed three runs (all unearned) in six innings.

Hogan Sedlock and Carter Mottice each went 2-for-4 for Jackson, with Sedlock driving in a run and Mottice scoring once. Carson Pastorius took the loss for the Polar Bears.

JACKSON CLINCHES SHARE OF FEDERAL LEAGUE

The Jackson baseball team earned a share of the Federal League title with a thrilling 1-0 victory over Green. Kyle Benson drove in the winning run for the Polar Bears with two outs in the bottom of the seventh inning to score pinch runner Aiden Nemet. The victory moved Jackson to 10-1 in the Federal League this season. It is the second consecutive league championship for the Polar Bears.

MANCHESTER'S OWEN CANTER BREAKS CAREER STRIKEOUT RECORD

Manchester senior pitcher Owen Canter broke the career strikeout record in style. Canter pitched a no-hitter and struck out 16 batters in a 5-0 victory over visiting Tuslaw. Canter has 199 career strikeouts for Manchester. The previous record was held by Dalton Earich (189). Canter is closing in on the single-season record of 90 strikeouts held by Pavin Parks. He has 86 strikeouts this season.

LAKE CENTER CHRISTIAN WINS PORTAGE TRAIL CONFERENCE TITLE

The Lake Center Christian baseball team earned a share of the Portage Trail Conference championship with a 9-6 victory over Mogadore. It is the first PTC title in program history for the Tigers. Braidon Miller hit a home run and had two RBIs for Lake Center. Dylan Maninga added two hits and an RBI. Lake Center is 17-4 overall and 9-1 in the PTC.

ST. THOMAS AQUINAS' KY'ARA ROSS WINS CONFERENCE TITLE

St. Thomas Aquinas’ Ky’Ara Ross won a league title on the first day of the Portage Trail Conference Track and Field Championships at Mogadore. Ross cleared 18 feet, 3.5 inches to win the girls long jump. Her winning jump was just one-half inch shy of her season best. Ross will compete in the 100 and 200-meter finals Friday. She had the fastest 100 time in Wednesday’s prelims at 12.60 seconds.
