THURSDAY'S HIGHLIGHTS

• Canton South's Evelyn Lynn became Stark County high school softball's all-time leader in home runs on Thursday, and she did it in style. The senior third baseman went 5-for-5 with two home runs and a triple in the Wildcats' 15-9 season-opening win against visiting St. Vincent-St. Mary. The two bombs give Lynn 44 career home runs, surpassing the previous record of 42 by former Massillon and Ohio State slugger Sam Hackenbracht. Lynn, who was the area's triple crown winner last season by batting .692 with 15 home runs and 44 RBIs, drove in five runs and scored five times Thursday as the Wildcats piled up 20 hits. South's Hannah Valentine went 4-for-5 with a double, a run scored and two RBIs. Amber Dedmon also homered for the Wildcats, who totaled seven extra-base hits.

• Hoover's Ella Letosky struck out 15 batters as she tossed a complete-game no-hitter in a 6-0 win at Massillon. Letosky walked two. Sadie Carroll went 3-for-3 with four RBIs for the Vikings. Dalaney Shannon and Maddie Rennecker added two hits each.

Monday's high school results: Mason Ashby breaks Hoover steals record; Sandy Valley's Nick Petro fires no-hitter

Mason Ashby broke the Hoover High School baseball career record for stolen bases in Monday's 7-0 win over Briar Woods (Virginia).

Ashby swiped two bases to give him 44 for his career. The old record of 43 was set by Jason Siegmund from 1990-91.

PETRO FIRES NO-HITTER Nick Petro pitched a no-hitter in Sandy Valley's 9-0 win over Claymont. He struck out 12.
