Monday and Tuesday roundup: Sheridan golfers punch district tickets

High school sporting results from the Muskingum Valley on Monday and Tuesday.

Boys Golf

Sheridan wins sectional in Southeast: Bryce Kelley and Owen Cains shot 80 to tie for second overall to lead a balanced effort by the Generals, which won the Division II sectional at Chillicothe Jaycees.

Wyatt Satterfield added 84 and Cody Hupp 85 for Sheridan (329), which bids to make a return to the state tournament next week at Crown Hill.

Hunter Heavener had 85 to place tied for 16th, Rocco Stanton added 91 and Brandon Stevenson 95 to lead New Lexington to a 12th-place finish with 391. Stanton and Heavener are underclassmen.

Vincent Warren and Albany Alexander shot 343, Circleville 344 and Circleville Logan Elm 346 to grab the other qualifying spots. It took 84 or better to qualify.

Girls Golf

Meadowbrook team, Mortimer advances from Carroll Meadows: Philo senior Brianna Mortimer was seventh of 105 players and the Electrics were eighth as a team during a Division II sectional at Carroll Meadows. Meadowbrook's girls team advanced to its first district in school history.

Mortimer's 83 left her just one shot away from qualifying for next week's district tournament. The top six teams and individuals from nonqualifying teams advanced.

Alyx Leach and Peyton Rogers each shot 89 to lead the Lady Colts who finished with a team score of 388 for fifth place to secure a spot in the district tournament. Liv Gray, Landry Davis each finished with 105 and Layla Gray shot 106.

Taiylor Winland added 99, Grace Hargraves 103 and Khole LaMay 121 for Philo, which shot 406.

West Muskingum was ninth with 410 as Isabella Henderson shot 95, Lydiah Huey 100, Jess Shawger 106 and Regan Davis 109.

River View, led by Kortnee Mickle's 84, was sixth with 400 to grab the final qualifying spot. Chloey Geog added 95, Addyson Blair 110 and Caily Shriver 111.

Ridgewood was 14th with 441, led by Josie Stanton's 99 and Jacey Hess' 104.

Morgan's Emma Miller, playing as an individual, shot 101.

Sugarcreek Garaway, behind co-medalist Brooklyn Numbers' 71, shot 295 to run away with the team title. Four Pirates shot 76 or better.

Carrollton's Claire Hostetler was co-medalist with 71; teammate Ashlee Garner added 73.

Volleyball

Buckeye Trail 25, 25, 25 Newcomerstown 23, 18, 13: The Lady Warriors improved to 10-5 with the Inter-Valley Conference home victory.

Kayla Hinkle led the Lady Warriors with 11 points, three aces, five digs, seven kills with Anna McVicker added nine points, two aces, 15 digs, 10 kills, three saves, three assists. Audrey King chipped in with eight points, two aces, five digs. Grace Shipe contributed seven points, nine digs, 14 assists and four kills.

Ally Carpenter tallied five points, nine digs, 10 kills, while Sydney Patterson collected four points, 13 digs, three assists, four kills for Buckeye Trail.

Morgan 25, 25, 21, 25, Crooksville 19, 19, 25, 13: Evelyn Newton tallied 16 kills and Haven Cook added 11 with three aces and four digs for the visiting Raiders, who dominated the final set in an MVL-Small School win.

Chloe Baker added three kills with 35 assists and 21 digs for Morgan; Blair Clawson chipped in seven kills with 17 digs and Ashtyn Filkins three assists with 25 digs.

New Lexington 25, 26, 25, Coshocton 16, 24, 23: Chloe Dick and Trinity Cook combined for 33 kills in the Panthers' straight-set win at The Wigwam.

Dick had 18 kills and Cook 15, while Abby Wilson offered nine with three blocks. Gracie Newlon chipped in five aces and nine digs and Cook had three aces.

Lacey Guthrie and Kenidi Jackson had eight kills and Leah Mathias five for Coshocton (6-9, 5-6); Leah Laaper added five aces and 14 assists.

Sheridan 25, 25, 25, Maysville 10, 11, 11: as the Generals remained atop the MVL-Big School Division.

Lauren Clark had three aces and Haylee Cornett two aces for Maysville.

River View 25, 25, 25, Philo 10, 21, 21: Haley Balo and Bailey Laudick combined for 22 kills in the visiting Lady Bears' sweep in the MVL-Big School Division.

Balo had 13 kills and Laudick nine, while Kelsie Smith had two aces, set up 27 assists and had 13 digs as River View improved to 11-7. Layla Olinger had 10 digs.

Tri-Valley 19, 25, 26, 20, 15, John Glenn 25, 23, 24, 20, 13: The Scotties outlasted the Muskies and won their seventh straight match after a MVL-Big School win in New Concord.

Eva Dittmar hit 24 kills with Annika Collet added 11 and Iris Lacy seven, Caity Journey made 24 digs and Eva 12, Ingrid Dittmar passed out 30 assists, and Kenzie Albertson went 22-of-23 serving with two aces, Eva was 19-of-19 with three aces, Landyn Andrews was 16-of-16 with an ace and Ingrid went 15-for-15 with two aces.

Emma Briggs' five aces and 20 kills paced John Glenn; Emma Dolan chipped in three aces, 12 kills and 12 digs and Aleea Musselman had 10 kills with 19 digs. Lauren Blair added 35 assists.

Boys Soccer

Morgan 7, New Lex 0: Cole McGill scored three times and assisted on two goals for the host Raiders, who yielded only one shot in a Muskingum Valley League-Small School match.

Braylon Miller, Elliott Voytko, Jude Garber and Tavian Myers also scored for the Raiders.

River View 5, Tri-Valley 0: The Black Bears scored four times in the second half to break open a close match with the visiting Scotties in an MVL-Big School clash in Warsaw.

Maysville 5, Sheridan 0: The Panthers rolled to an MVL-Big School win on the road.

Leaders were not reported.

Coshocton 1, Philo 0: Thomas Inglima flicked a header on to Aiden Braxton, who then rocketed the ball upper left 90 from the right side about tow minutes into the second half, as the Redskins improved to 5-6-1 overall and 3-3-1 in the MVL.

Keeper Kabe Bylaw made 10 saves and had a strong defense in front of him to post the shutout.

Girls Tennis

Cambridge 3, East Liverpool 2: The Lady Bobcats traveled to East Liverpool for a Buckeye 8 Conference match and came away the road victory.

Cambridge jumped out to a early two lead with Miranda Cole winning 8-2 over LaNa Le at first singles and Emma Krise scoring a 8-0 shutout over Paige Grimes.

With the match tied at two apiece, Cambridge’s first doubles team of Selina Garcia and Reese Antill secured the match by cruising to a 8-4 win over Peyton Valgamore and Gracie Murray.

Cambridge improves to 4-13 and wraps up at regular season tomorrow evening at 4:30 home against New Philadelphia.

Monday's results

Maysville rules at River Greens: Sophomore Hoyt Dodson shot 73 to pace the Panthers, who won the Division II sectional tournament at River Greens.

Dodson topped the field with a front-nine 36, then came back with 37 on the back as Maysville shot 316. Senior Owen Lutz added 77, sophomore Cade Pickrell 80 and freshman Ethan Wright 86.

Gnadenhutten Indian Valley was second (317), Meadowbrook third (329) and Carrollton fourth (334). The top four teams and individuals from nonqualifying teams advanced to next Monday's district at EagleSticks.

Junior Steven Grafton led Meadowbrook with 79; junior Ben Coss added 80 and seniors Owen Dennis and Damon Baier 85.

Coshocton was seventh with 367 behind senior Coby Moore's 84 and senior Carter Summers' 91. Freshman Bransyn Dawson added 95 and sophomore Jerison Spain 97.

Morgan was ninth (376) as senior Austin Dille shot 89, junior Wyatt Weaver 93 and sophomore Coleman Steimer 94; Philo was 10th (377) as junior A.J. Layton posted 84, junior Josh Gooden 95 and junior Blake Hiles and freshman Tanner Brookover 99.

River View (390) saw sophomore Caleb Kline post 81 and senior Thad Cox 83 to claim two of the individual qualifying spots; junior Isaiah Carpenter had 109 and sophomore Reid Johnson 117.

Ridgewood's Zach Evin posted 86; sophomore Wade Thompson added 103, freshman Kyle Johnson 109 and sophomore Conrad Johnson 114.

West M advances from Cadiz: Reid Lemity shot 78 to place seventh of 63 players as West Muskingum was fourth at the Division II sectional at Cadiz Country Club.

Silas Bailey added 81, Nick Anton 86 and Kyle Porter as West shot 337 and secured the final qualifying spot for next Monday's district at EagleSticks.

Champion St. Clairsville won with 300, led by medalist Brodi Foster's 69 and freshman Mavrik Malin's 74. All five Red Devil starters are underclassmen.

Cambridge was eighth overall behind senior Jackson Gregg's 84 and senior Bradyn Gregg's 87. Mason Gregg added 100 and Jax VanDyne 108. Reed lost in a three-man playoff for the final qualifying spot.

John Glenn fifth at Central District preview: Owen Van Fossen shot 74 to pace the Muskies in the Division I Central District preview at Apple Valley.

Noah Dever added 76, Braden Rice 79 and C.J. Dolan 81 for the Muskies.

John Glenn was fifth overall of 20 teams with 310, trailing champion Dublin Coffman (287), Powell Olentangy Liberty (291), Upper Arlington (295) and Thomas Worthington (305).

Division I teams will begin sectional tournament play next week.

River View wins Middle School tournament: The Black Bears won the ZDGA Green Valley Middle School tournament, as 65 players competed.

River View, without top player Gavin Gress, who was ill, totaled 258 and was led by overall medalist Colton Gress' 57, while Clark Frischen shot 61 to finish second overall.

St. Clairsville was second with 285 and John Glenn was third with 291.

The girls medalist was Brynn Harstine, who carded a 69.

Girls Golf

Everett reaches district: New Lexington junior Peyton Everett fired a back-nine 37 en route to an 83 that was good for sixth overall among 67 players at the Division II sectional at Buckeye Hills Country Club.

Megan Howdyshell shot 97 to place 18th for the Panthers, who did not field a full team.

Elaina Seeley, of Circleville, fired a 67 to claim medalist honors. Williamsport Westfall added 69 and Manchester's Taylor Ralston 70.

Sheridan wins at Hocking Hills: Morgan Wamer had 39 for medalist honors to pace the Generals to a win against Logan at Hocking Hills State Park.

Haven Jenkins added 45, Ryan Satterfield 46 and Casey Peach 52.

Girls Soccer

Tri-Valley 4, Licking Valley 2: Maddie Garber kicked a pair of goals for the Scotties in a nonleague win at Kenny Wolford Park.

Lexie Sims and Nevaeh Peffers also scored for Tri-Valley; Zoey White collected two assists and Mackenzie Harvey two saves at goal.

Sheridan 6, Heath 2: Kendall Harter and Emily Malone kicked two goals for the Generals, who scored four times before halftime in a convincing win against the visiting Bulldogs.

Dylan Gibbs and Mikenna Schiele also scored for Sheridan; Schiele assisted twice and Anna Swain added one.

Grace Dupler made three saves and Harter and Rylee Hale had one each.

Volleyball

Dover 25, 25, 19, 17, 15, Buckeye Trail 22, 20, 25, 25, 10: Anna McVicker collected 13 kills, 14 assists and 13 digs and Grace Shipe surpassed 1,000 career assists with 22 assists, 10 digs and eight kills in the Warriors' five set-loss.

Audrey King went 16-of-16 serving with eight digs, Ally Carpenter had 21 digs and five kills to go with 20-of-20 serving, Kayla Hinkle added 20 digs and six kills and Jersey Eddy hit seven kills with four blocks for Trail.

Girls Tennis

Marietta 4, Cambridge 1: Collecting the lone win for the Bobcats were Emma Krise and Miranda Cole at first doubles, beating Marietta’s No. 1 and No. 2 singles Olivia Emery and Jenna Jackson 7-6(2), 7-5.

Killer Jeffery lost 0-6, 0-6 to Isabel Macatol in first singles; Magali Garcia lost 0-6, 0-6 to Alex Birge at singles; Madi Peebles lost 0-6, 0-6 at third singles to Devon Bolen; and Second doubles Selina Garcia and Reese Antill lost 1-6, 1-6 to Elayna Rehl and Katie Lovejoy.
