Monday-Tuesday roundup: Sheridan rallies for win at Philo

A look at area results from Monday's and Tuesday's high school action around the Muskingum Valley.

Boys Basketball

Sheridan 65, Philo 59 (OT): Raine Rodich poured in 27 points, 21 after halftime, as the visiting Generals (10-6, 7-4) trailed 42-36 entering the fourth quarter before forging a 52-all tie at the end of regulation in an overtime win against the Electrics (6-11, 2-9).

Logan Russell and Kory Holden each had 12 points and Evan Anderson added seven for the winners.

Drew Wright paced Philo with 20 points, while Cooper Radcliffe scored 14, 10 in the second quarter, and Rusty Trout added 11.

New Lexington 53, Morgan 42: Isaiah Stephens went for 14 points, six rebounds, four assists and three steals,a s the visiting Panthers (15-3, 10-2) had trouble shaking the Raiders (5-10, 4-6) before a 16-11 fourth allowed them to pull away for a Muskingum Valley League Small School Division win.

Bentley Hanson also scored 14 points, Jerek Braglin finished with 12 points and five rebounds and Paul Stenson chipped in seven for New Lex, which led 37-31 entering the fourth after the game was tied at 24 at halftime.

Carson Mummey finished with 24 points to pace the Raiders.

Rosecrans 77, Miller 69: Owen Lambert drilled four 3s in the third quarter and finished with 14 points to help the Bishops (13-5, 9-2) fend off the Falcons in Mid-State League Cardinal Division play.

Grady Labishak, who made five 3s, scored 23 of his 32 points in the second half for Rosecrans, which led 35-34 at the half and 65-58 going to the fourth. He also had seven assists and five rebounds.

Xander Daniels and Tyler Bernett both had double-doubles. Bernett made three 3s as part of a 13-point, 10-board effort, while Daniels grabbed 16 rebounds to go with 13 points for the Bishops, who made 13 of 36 3s to Miller's 7-of-25 effort beyond the arc.

Coshocton 72, River View 38: Logan Lonsberry continued his hot shooting, nailing seven 3s on his way to a team-high 25 points, as the Redskins (11-5, 7-4) downed the rival Black Bears (6-10, 3-7).

Colton Conkle contributed a double-double of 17 points, three 3, and 11 assists, along with seven steals and five rebounds. Alex Taylor had 13 points and Antwone Johns chipped in eight points and five rebounds for Coshocton, which led 38-22 at the half.

Hayden Walters finished with 11 points and Laired Williamson scored nine to pace River View.

Maysville 75, Crooksville 37: Alex Bobb and Jordyn Watson scored 22 points apiece as the Panthers (12-3, 8-2) raced out to a 28-5 advantage through one quarter of play in a rout of the Ceramics (4-12, 1-9).

Gator Nichols finished with 11 and Wesley Armstead had 10 points for Maysville, which made 13 3s.

Konlan McIntyre had 15 points with three 3s and Jace Thompson chipped in seven for Crooksville.

West Muskingum 53, Meadowbrook 42: Conner Hill had 14 of his 18 points in the second half, and the Tornadoes (7-10, 5-6) led 42-29 entering the fourth in a win over the Colts (1-13, 0-11) in Small School Division play.

Kyle Porter added 16 points and Carter Smith chipped in eight for West M, which was up 26-22 at the half.

Masyn Campbell paced Meadowbrook with 16 points, while Bentley Sedor had 11 and Michael Ray eight.

Claymont 44, Ridgewood 35: Grant Lahmers had 11 points and Logan Ridenbaugh added 10 for the Generals (4-13, 0-8), who trailed 12-6 after one quarter and could not quite rally in Inter-Valley Conference play.

Dillon Watkins had 20 points and Brody Moreland 11 for the Mustangs, who led 20-17 at the half and 28-24 entering the fourth.

East Canton 65, Buckeye Trail 57: Charlie Parry had 18 points and Gavin Rome added 12 for the Warriors (12-2, 6-2), who were up 44-38 entering the fourth quarter in a road loss to the Hornets in IVC North action.

Caleb Schilling poured in 31 points and Ollie Schaefer tallied 20 to pace East Canton.

Girls Basketball

Rosecrans 53, Miller 38: Abby Sagan scored 19 points and Danielle Joseph added 17, as the Bishops (6-11, 4-8) raced out to a 20-8 lead through one quarter in a Mid-State League Cardinal Division win.

Emily Jenkins also had 12 rebounds and nine points, Sagan grabbed four steals, and Maddie Bernett hauled in six boards with seven points for the winners.

Girls Basketball

Sheridan 86, Coshocton 17: Jamisyn Stinson hit six 3s among her game-high 28 points as the Generals stayed unbeaten in the Muskingum Valley League-Big School Division.

Stinson, who also had six assists, hit four 3-pointers in the first half and two more in the third, helping the Generals (18-0, 12-0 MVL-Big) to a 50-10 lead at halftime and 76-13 entering the fourth.

Ava Heller and Nora Saffell had 12 points and Addi Shaeffer nine for Sheridan, which hit 35 of 54 field goals. Saffell added six assists and five rebounds.

Isabelle Lauvray hit two 3s among her 12 points for Coshocton.

Philo 50, Gnadenhutten Indian Valley 27: Bailey Dement tossed in 27 points with three 3-pointers as the visiting Electrics earned their 10th win of the season.

Dement scored 11 points in the first half, then sank 6 of 8 free throws in the second half. She finished 8-of-10 at the line as Philo led 22-11 at halftime and 35-25 entering the fourth.

Caitlin Rose added 10 points and Bri Wolfe nine for Philo (10-8), which was 17-of-39 from the field and had 10 assists. Olivia Winland added seven rebounds and four assists.

Macy Lancaster had 13 points for Indian Valley (7-11).

Belpre 62, Morgan 49: Gianna Myers had a game-high 30 points in a losing effort for the Raiders, who were outscored 17-2 in the second quarter in a nonleague loss.

Morgan (7-10) got four 3-pointers and sank 10 of 13 free throws, but no other Raider scored more than five points.

Haley Alloway scored 24 points for Belpre (9-7), which led 33-16 at halftime and 49-29 entering the fourth.

Rosecrans 44, Cols. Franklin Heights 37: Emily Jenkins had 12 points and seven rebounds and Abby Sagan chipped in 10 points, as the Bishops built a 12-point lead after three quarters and held on for a nonleague road win.

Rosecrans held leads of 14-9 after a quarter, 23-18 at halftime and 34-22 entering the final frame.

Shenandoah 41, Buckeye Trail 37: Kadence Noll had 12 points and Brylee May added 10, as the Zeps downed the Warriors (8-10).

Swimming

River View’s Addy breaks record: The River View swim teams competed in a double-dual meet Saturday, Jan. 27, at the Janet Jones Mulligan Natatorium where Colin Addy broke his own school record time in the 50-yard freestyle by placing second to the highest-ranked swimmer in the state with a time of 24.37.

The girls swept all three schools in head-to-head results. In the final results, the girls defeated Warren 83-49, Ridgewood 98-11, and Lakewood 95-46. The the boys defeated Ridgewood 53-46 and Lakewood 59-29, and fell to Warren 77-42.

Event winners for the girls were the relay of Ally Fischer, Lily Grewell, Riley Gottardi and Kam McGinnis in the 200 medley (2:25.52) and 200 free (2:12.65); and the relay of Ava Lewis, Chloee Adams, Natylee Milici and Kynsingten McMasters in the 400 free (5:55.82); Riley Gottardi in the 200 free (2:51.01) and 100 Free (1:12.58); Ally Fischer in the 200 individual medley (2:57.89); Lily Grewell in the 400 free (5:45.34); and Ava Lewis in the 100 backstroke (1:38.72).

Winning boys’ events were Addy in the 100 butterfly (1:02.90) and JT Allison in the 200 free (2:47.77).

The Black Bears will swim in the Muskingum Valley League Championship on Wednesday, Jan. 31.
