Saturday's high school results: Northwest's Madelyn Begert wins OHSAA district track titles; Jackson baseball clinches share of Federal League

TRACK AND FIELD

Northwest's Madelyn Begert is off to a flying start in her pursuit of a successful high school track and field postseason.

Bergert swept the girls distance finals Saturday at the Division II district meet in Orrville. She won the 1,600 in 5:35.05 and the 3,200 in 12:26.01.

Tuslaw's Hailey Wood won the 200 in 27.04 seconds.

BASEBALL

Jackson clinches share of Federal League

The Jackson baseball team clinched at least a share of the Federal League title on Saturday when Hoover defeated GlenOak in eight innings (5-4) on Saturday. The Polar Bears are 9-2 with one league game to play against GlenOak. Hoover and GlenOak trail Jackson with 7-3 records in the Federal League. Hoover has a suspended game left against Lake and a full game remaining against GlenOak. GlenOak has games left against Jackson and Hoover.

Friday's high school results: Kyleigh Lippincott helps lead Minerva track and field to OHSAA district title

Kyleigh Lippincott had a hand in three wins as Minerva won the girls team title at the West Holmes Division II district track and field meet on Friday.

Lippincott won the 100 and 200 meters and ran on the Lions' winning 1,600 relay with Lilah Sanor, Hannah Foor and Ivey Rettig.

Gabby Lupshu won the 3,200, and Minerva opened the meet with Katie Ison, Hannah Ison, Annabelle Crissman and Kayla Crissman winning the 3,200 relay.

The area boys champions at West Holmes were Carrollton's Ricky Sibila in the 3,200 and the Minerva boys 3,200 relay of Grasyn Rettig, Owen Yoder, Mason Stelle and Rowen Hoffee.

NORWAYNE DIVISION III DISTRICT: Lake Center Christian and East Canton each won two events in the Division III district track and field meet at Norwayne. Nicole Hayes opened the day with a win in the girls 100 meters for Lake Center. Gianna Ritchie added a victory in the 800. East Canton's Shanaray Kager won a district title in the girls discus. The Hornets also won the boys 1,600 relay. St. Thomas Aquinas freshman Jacarie Corner won his first district title in the 400.

Thursday's high school results: Sandy Valley's Lexi Tucci has record-setting OHSAA district meet

Lexi Tucci continues to rewrite records.

The Sandy Valley senior added two more to her impressive résumé at this week's Division III district track and field meet in St. Clairsville. She set school and district meet records on Thursday when she cleared 18 feet, 1.25 inches to win the long jump. She also won the high jump on Monday, hitting meet-record jump of 5-4.5.

Tucci qualified to next week's regional meet in all four of her events. In addition to her field event wins, she also won the 100 and helped lead Sandy Valley's 800 relay to a runner-up finish.

NO-NO BY GLENOAK'S SIBERT GlenOak's Ben Sibert threw a no-hitter and the Golden Eagles beat visiting Solon 6-1 in a Division I baseball sectional semifinal on Tuesday. The junior right-hander struck out seven batters in improving to 4-2 on the season. No. 12 seed GlenOak (12-11) advances to play at No. 9 Fitch on Thursday in a sectional final. Bryce Broom and Jackson Boles had two hits apiece for the Golden Eagles, who scored all six of their runs in the fourth inning.
