Mock Draft Watch: CBS Sports latest projects a popular safety to the Browns

Another mock draft was released and we obviously couldn’t let a new one from CBS Sports and Ryan Wilson go without taking a gander at what he was slotting the Cleveland Browns at number 26 overall.

In this scenario, Wilson has Cleveland selecting the first safety off the board in Trevon Moehrig from TCU. And it’s for good reason as Wilson provides in his analysis,

“The Browns have some young, promising players on defense but they’ve struggled to stay healthy. Moehrig is the best safety in the class who can play deep centerfield and in the slot if needed.”

Moehrig looks like a perfect fit for Cleveland with a resume that includes two seasons of dominant football in the pass-happy Big 12. He was third on the team in tackles with 47 and second on the team with nine pass deflections and was also second in interceptions with two. Moehrig is a big safety who thrived in the quarters defense that TCU runs.

Later Round S Options:

Ben DeLuca, Charlotte, 6-1, 207 pounds:

DeLuca was the leader of the 49ers defensive backfield and has multiple seasons of All-C-USA level play under his belt, but his testing numbers will play a huge role in where he gets selected. Charlotte has their pro day on April 1st and the Browns should have plenty of eyes on him.

Reed Blankenship, MTSU, 6-1, 196 pounds:

Another extremely talented player with a ton of experience on his resume, Blankenship was arguably the best defensive player in the C-USA each year of his collegiate career and despite suffering a broken ankle in 2019, Blankenship was back to his high level of play the very next season. He is commonly mocked on day three, but has starting potential with a solid all around game that should make him valuable against both the run and pass.
