MLB’s Jim Callis ranks Paul Skenes as one of the best pitching prospects ever

The 2023 MLB draft is less than three days away. A few of LSU’s star players and possibly some of their recruits will hear their names called on draft night. One of those guys is Paul Skenes.

Skenes has been projected as a top-two draft pick all year long and that didn’t change in Perfect Game’s latest mock draft. It has him going No. 2 overall to the Washington Nationals. This makes a lot of sense because one of Skenes’ biggest comps is Stephen Strasburg.

Jim Callis decided to take a look at the top 10 pitching prospects of all time to see where Skenes would stack up. Skenes was ranked as the No. 2 pitching prospect of all time. Here is what Callis had to say,

As a sophomore at Air Force a year ago, Skenes was the only D-I player to reach doubles figures in both wins and home runs, and his considerable power potential would land him in the top three rounds if he were purely a position player.

As you could guess, the aforementioned Strasburg finished at No.1 on the list.
