Mitchell tops Saturday's 31-point performance with 36 in Oshkosh North boys basketball win over No. 3 Appleton North

OSHKOSH - Oshkosh North (14-4, 11-1 Fox Valley Association) led by two at the half and pulled away from Appleton North (14-3, 9-3) after the break for an impressive 83-69 victory, taking a two-game lead in the FVA over the third-ranked team in the state.

Zay Mitchell led the Spartans with a game-high 36 points and Stevie Clark added 21 for Oshkosh North. Bryce Ott chipped in with 12 points and Carter Strange had 10 points.

Abraham Tomari scored 24 points, including four 3-pointers, to lead the Lightning. Will Sweeney followed with 15 points for Appleton North and Will Guilbeault had 10 points with six rebounds and three steals.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Lourdes Academy 49, Dodgeland 39

JUNEAU - The Knights (13-4, 8-2 Trailways-East) picked up a double-digit conference victory over the Trojans (12-5, 5-3) to remain atop the conference standings.

Mitchell Wing scored a game-high 17 points to lead Lourdes and JJ McKellips added 12 points for the Knights.

Isaiah Yuenger led Dodgeland with 10 points.

Kimberly 68, Oshkosh West 30

KIMBERLY - The Wildcats (5-12, 3-9 Fox Valley Association) were held to just 11 first half points in a blowout loss to the Papermakers (12-5, 9-4).

Joey Ware led Oshkosh West with 10 points and five rebounds.

Mikey Wildes and Thomas Meyers each scored 12 points apiece to lead Kimberly.

Berlin 87, Ripon 51

BERLIN - Berlin (15-3, 5-2 East Central) put on a scoring show, doubling their 18-point halftime lead with a 36-point win over conference rival Ripon (6-12, 1-7).

Carter Hess led Berlin with 17 points, including three 3-pointers, and seven rebounds. Alex Johnson and Hayden Redington each added 12 points and Brock Wilde chipped in with 11.

Johnson also had three 3's, with four assists and five steals, and Redington had a team-high eight rebounds.

Carter Brown hit four 3-pointers, finishing with 16 points to lead Ripon. Declan Dudzinski followed with 11 points for the Tigers.

Oakfield 68, Valley Christian 38

OAKFIELD - The Warriors (2-14, 0-8 Trailways-East) were outscored by 15 points in each half for a 30-point blowout loss to the Oaks (11-4, 7-2).

Isaiah Hyvonen scored 10 points and grabbed six rebounds to lead Valley Christian.

Davis Dercks led Oakfield with a game-high 19 points, five rebounds, four assists and three steals. Mitchell Moser added 10 points, six rebounds and five assists.

Waupun 80, Winneconne 67

WAUPUN - The Wolves (2-13, 1-7 East Central) dropped a conference matchup to the Warriors (11-6, 7-1).

Cohen Reetz led Winneconne with 18 points and Brody Schaffer followed with 16 points, eight rebounds and three assists.

Aiden Hawkinson scored a game-high 23 points, including five three-pointers, and grabbed nine rebounds with five steals to lead Waupun. Logan Prall added 12 points and six assists and Jake Krueger had 10 for the Warriors.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

No. 7 (D-5) Lourdes Academy 63, North Fond du Lac 39

NORTH FOND DU LAC - The Knights (16-2, 10-0 Trailways-East) jumped out to a 28-point first half lead over the Orioles (9-8, 4-4 Flyway) and cruised the rest of the way to pick up a non-conference victory.

Hailee Bauer led Lourdes with 17 points, including 5-for-12 on three-pointers, with eight rebounds and three steals.

Delaney Ruedinger added 16 points, six rebounds and four assists and Ella Slusarski had a double-double with 13 points, 11 rebounds, four assists and three steals.

Valley Christian 75, Bowler 48

OSHKOSH - The Warriors (12-5, 7-3 Trailways-East) secured a blowout non-conference victory over the Panthers (9-8, 4-1 Central Wisconsin-North).

Anna E. Giannopoulos led Valley Christian with a game-high 27 points, on 11-of-17 makes from the field, and eight assists.

Anna Y. Giannopoulos followed her younger cousin with an impressive double-double of 25 points, 15 rebounds and three steals on solid 10-for-12 shooting at the free throw line.

Mackenzie Grammer racked up a team-high five steals for the Warriors to go with her five points.

Isabelle Stevens scored 13 points to lead Bowler and Paige Treptow added 10 for the Panthers.

OSHKOSH - After a stalemate in the first half, the Wildcats (11-8, 7-6 Fox Valley Association) were outscored by 11 after the break, dropping a conference matchup to the second-place Papermakers (15-3, 11-2).

Laina Hammen and Morgan Toman each scored 14 points to lead Oshkosh West. Brenna Gehri added 10 points for the Wildcats.

Katelyn McGinnis led Kimberly with a game-high 18 points and Emily Urban followed with 16 for the Papermakers.

Appleton North 65, Oshkosh North 59

APPLETON - The Spartans (8-11, 3-10 Fox Valley Association) fought valiantly until the end, but fell just short against the Lightning (10-9, 8-5), who are now on a three-game winning streak and have won seven of their last 10 in the FVA.

Lauren Geer drained seven three-pointers for a team-high and career-high 23 points to keep Oshkosh North in the game.

Brinna Paulson added 11 points, including three 3-pointers, and Awut Alic had a double-double with 10 points, 11 rebounds.

Not to be outdone, Avery Werfal tied two school records with eight total 3's for a game-high 36 points, including 27 in the first half on seven threes of her own, to lead Appleton North.

Tay Maass followed with 13 points for the Lightning.

Omro 68, Winneconne 67

WINNECONNE - After trailing by as many as 11 points with 3:13 to go, the Foxes (11-7, 6-3 Flyway) came back to narrowly edge past the Wolves (8-11, 4-5 East Central) in a classic rivalry matchup between non-conference foes.

Julia Koch led Omro with 16 points. Ariana King and Ava Koch added 14 points each and Madi Brooks had 11 for the Foxes.

Grace Mitchell scored 16 points in the second half to lead Winneconne with a game-high 22. Mitchell also grabbed six rebounds and three steals.

Taylor Rogers added 11 points and four steals and Neela Gardner had 10 points for the Wolves.

BOYS HOCKEY

Fond du Lac 7, Oshkosh 0

FOND DU LAC - The Ice Hawks (8-13, 2-5) were shut out for the second time in the past three games, this time by the Cardinals (11-7-1, 6-1) in the first round of the Badgerland conference tournament.

Oshkosh was outshot by Fondy, 42-13.

Drake Deanovich opened the scoring for the Cardinals in the first period with a power play goal.

Parker Ziebell collected a hat trick with two goals in the second period and one in the third and Blake Spies chipped in with a pair of goals in the second, as well.

Brayden Burgess tacked on a third period goal to round out the scoring for Fondy.

Gage Bauer had 35 saves in net for the Ice Hawks and Sean Patrick Juoni had 13 saves for the Cardinals.
