Mitchell Marlins to host Pink the Rink event on Saturday, Jan. 6

Jan. 4—MITCHELL — The Mitchell Marlins hockey organization will host its seventh annual Pink the Rink event on Saturday, Jan. 6 at the Mitchell Activities Center, with a day full of games and special events on the schedule.

The event annually raises funds in the community and awareness for battling cancer by dyeing the ice pink. The funds raised this year will be split between the Siouxland Sled Hockey team and the Mitchell Heart and Sole organization. Players on the Marlins' teams will honor those who have battled cancer throughout the day, and players' uniforms and equipment will be accented with pink on the ice.

The Marlins will also have special events involving sled hockey. The Siouxland Sled Hockey team will be holding practice at the MAC's Innovative Rink beginning at 4:15 p.m.

The schedule includes peewee games against Yankton starting at 8 a.m., bantam hockey against Brookings at 2 p.m, the Marlin girls varsity team in action at 4 p.m. against Watertown, followed by the boys junior varsity at 6:15 p.m. and the boys varsity at 8:30 p.m. against Yankton.

The events also include raffle baskets, luminaries, a signed USA Hockey jersey raffle and a chase the playing card raffle to split the pot 50/50.
