Mitchell Marlins to host Pink the Rink event on Jan. 15

Jan. 11—MITCHELL — The Mitchell Marlins hockey organization will have its fifth annual Pink the Rink event on Saturday, Jan. 15 at the Mitchell Activities Center, with a day full of games and special events on the schedule.

The event annually raises funds in the community and awareness for battling cancer by dyeing the ice pink. The funds raised in 2022 will be split between the Wounded Warrior project (60%) and the Mitchell Heart and Sole organization (40%). Players on the Marlins' teams will honor those who have battled cancer throughout the day, and players' uniforms and equipment will be accented with pink on the ice.

The Marlins will also have special events involving sled hockey throughout the day. A special presentation involving the Siouxland Sled Hockey organization will take place at 11 a.m. A sled hockey scrimmage will take place at 6:45 p.m. at the MAC's Innovative Rink.

The schedule includes peewee games against Sioux Center, Iowa, starting at 8 a.m., bantam hockey against Watertown at 1 p.m., the Marlin girls varsity team in action at 3 p.m. against Yankton, followed by the boys junior varsity at 5:30 p.m. and the boys varsity at 8 p.m. against Sioux Center, Iowa.

The events also include raffle baskets, luminaries, a signed USA Hockey jersey raffle and a chase the playing card raffle to split the pot 50/50.
