Missouri State basketball to retire Danny Moore's jersey at halftime on Saturday

One of the greatest Missouri State basketball players of all time will finally be properly honored with the retirement of his jersey at halftime during Saturday afternoon's game.

Danny Moore, the Bears' top scorer and rebounder in all three seasons he wore the maroon and white from 1996 through the magical 1999 season, will see the No. 32 raised in the rafters.

The ceremony will take place at halftime of the Bears' game against South Carolina State at Great Southern Bank Arena. Tip-off is at 1 p.m.

Moore's jersey retirement will be part of a day that will honor the 25th anniversary of the 1999 Sweet 16 team. Moore's teammates will be in attendance along with former head coach Steve Alford.

Moore will be the fifth Missouri State men's basketball player to have his jersey retired — alongside Winston Garland (22), Jerry Anderson (43), Curtis Perry (54) and Daryel Garrison, who also wore No. 32.

Missouri State has several ticket specials available for the game — including free admission for kids 12 and under and $5 adult tickets are available for all bleacher seats and all upper-level seats.

Moore transferred from Miami (Ohio) to MSU where he earned All-Missouri Valley Conference recognition, including first-team honors in 1997 and 1999. He was a 53.7% shooter during his career. His first season saw him score the fourth-most single-season points in the school's history with double-figure scoring outputs in all 33 games.

In 1999, Moore blocked 84 shots, shattering a single-season school record that still stands. He scored 25 points for the Bears in an NCAA Tournament against Tennessee which matched a team record for March Madness scoring.

The Shelbyville, Indiana, native was inducted into the MSU Athletics Hall of Fame in 2011.

Missouri State is currently 4-1 this season and is coming off a Paradise Jam title after a three-game sweep at the U.S. Virgin Islands.
