Mississippi State football redshirt tracker for freshmen from 2023 signing class
STARKVILLE — Mississippi State football’s Week 5 loss against Alabama signaled an important benchmark in the season. Seven freshmen played in MSU’s opening five games, meaning they’ve eliminated a chance at redshirting this season.
The NCAA allows for players to appear in four games while still being able to save a year of eligibility.
First-year coach Zach Arnett has 28 true freshmen on his roster. He has said throughout the early part of the season that decisions to redshirt a player develop as the season progresses. Those who have yet to play more than five games could still wind up surpassing that benchmark if needed.
“With injuries, with the transfer portal, your whole roster has to be ready to help at any time,” Arnett said.
Here’s a look at which Mississippi State freshmen have surpassed the four-game mark. This list will be updated throughout the season as necessary. Ratings are according to the 247Sports Composite rankings.
