Mike Gorman views Kristaps Porzingis as the key to a championship

Kristaps Porzingis has made his presence felt since joining the Boston Celtics. The veteran big man’s unique skillset has elevated the Celtics already elite roster to new heights. When he’s on the floor, Boston’s offense is more fluid, and their defense more robust.

During a recent appearance on the “Green With Envy” podcast, Hall of Fame announcer Mike Gorman detailed why he’s so bullish on Porzingis. Gorman noted how he believes the Celtics are a contender with or without the big man, but they need Porzingis on the floor if they want a legitimate chance of winning a championship this season or in the ones to come.

“The one piece we can’t afford to lose is the one guy who’s been hurt so far, and that’s Porzingis,” Gorman said. “…We’d still finish in the top two or three, but I don’t think we win a championship without Porzingis. He’s the missing piece to get you from second or third to first.”

Porzingis is expected to return from a calf strain injury when the Celtics face the New York Knicks on Friday (Dec. 9), and Boston fans will be hoping “The Unicorn” can hit the ground running to help the Celtics’ offense get back to where it was earlier in the season.
