Midgets celebrate trio's All-WDA honors following challenging season
Mar. 11—DICKINSON — Following a competitive basketball season in the West Region, the Dickinson Midgets saw three athletes between their boys and girls basketball teams receive selections to the All-WDA teams. Despite a season filled with woes and adversity, the teams' incredible efforts shone through and senior Damon Glasser, sophomore Boston Cranston, and senior Sadie Stevenson were honored.
Glasser has led the Midgets as the sole team member to secure triple-digit rebounds, he grabbed 127 boards. He topped his team by scoring 41 points from second chances and amassed 126 points from the lane.
Cranston delivered an incredible season and is poised to play a significant role in the future. Consistently leading DHS in scoring, he averaged 18 points per game, amassing a total of 377 points over the year.
Cranston stood out in several statistical categories, notably in three-pointers, where he made an impressive 59 baskets, far ahead of Nolan Weidner's impressive 39. He also boasted the highest free-throw success rate on his team at 74%, led in layups with 136, and showcased exceptional playmaking skills with 64 assists.
Stevenson, a true gamer, consistently led her team in scoring most nights. As a three-sport athlete and a natural leader, she entered the season with a clear understanding of the significant impact she needed to make and indeed rose to the occasion.
Stevenson scored 238 points during the season, with 40.8% coming from inside the perimeter and a 60% success rate from the free-throw line. She dominated in rebounds, leading her team by nearly 100 with a total of 206 for the season. Defensively, her quick hands led to 42 steals, further showcasing her ability to force turnovers.
The Dickinson Press also recognizes efforts by two standout athletes in seniors Dante Oyugi and Jazmin Barry.
Oyugi excelled as an all-around player, demonstrating remarkable skill from various positions. He secured 24 three-pointers, maintained a 47.4% field goal percentage, and led his team with 41 steals. Additionally, he was second only to Cranston in free-throw accuracy, achieving a 71.4% success rate.
Barry contributed significantly to her team with a season total of 187 points, including 144 points from the paint and 34 points from putbacks.
Senior Braelynn Farnsworth also deserves recognition; although she did not score as heavily as her senior counterparts, she made a notable impact by securing the second-highest number of three-pointers at 20 and coming in second in assists with 38.
