Michigan State hockey beats national powers for pledge from elite recruit Cullen Potter

Michigan State hockey has been red-hot on the recruiting trail over the past several months and has picked up another high-profile commitment to strengthen its 2025 class.

Cullen Potter, a 16-year-old forward who is a member of the U.S. National Team Development Program's U-17 team, gave his pledge to the Spartans on Wednesday before publicly announcing his commitment on Instagram on Thursday night.

Potter, who has picked up three assists in his first two games with the NTDP, is considered one of the top 2007-born forwards in the country and one of the top forward prospects eligible to be picked in 2025 NHL Draft.

Potter, who is out of Hortonville, Wisconsin, picked the Spartans over offers from Minnesota, Michigan, North Dakota, Harvard, Boston University, Boston College and Notre Dame, among others. Prior to joining the USNTDP, the 5-foot-9, 161-pound Potter skated with the Dallas Stars Elite U-16 team, where he scored 43 goals and had 44 assists in 52 games.

Potter's mother, Jenny Potter, was a four-time Olympian with the women's national team, winning a gold medal in 1998, silver in 2002 and 2010, and bronze in 2006. She is a member of the U.S. Hockey Hall of Fame.

Potter's addition adds to recent commitments for MSU from forwards Ryker Lee (Shattuck St. Mary's U-18) and Shane Vansaghi (NTDP U-18), as well as 2007-born defenseman Dryden Allen (USHL Dubuque draft pick).
