Michael Vick says Eagles 'still my team'
Two days into a voluntary minicamp for the Philadelphia Eagles, Michael Vick says there has been a lot of read-option.
It figures Chip Kelly would bring plenty of that with him from Oregon to the NFL. Vick figures to be the best man on the roster to run the scheme, too, but he’s not discounting the ability of Nick Foles, who he is splitting reps with at this point.
“Nick can run,” Vick deadpanned, according to Les Bowen of the Philadelphia Daily News. “Everybody got two legs.”
Foles is hardly mobile, though, but Kelly has declared it is going to be an open competition for the job. That isn’t bothering Vick, not now anyway.
“The offense is very refreshing ... it's beautiful when it all comes together,” Vick said. “Actually going out there and practicing and seeing it against different defenses. I was very accurate today, guys running wide open -- and I think that's the system -- but guys were running wide open, our defense did a great job, but I was able to make some tight throws. I feel like the learning curve for me in this system is coming along.”
He says competition pushes everyone to raise their level of play and says everyone has to earn their spot. But he believes he is the leader.
“Honestly, I just look at it as it's still my team, still my job,” Vick said. “I think that's the mind-set you've got to have.”
