Michael Pittman Jr. keeping No. 11 despite Carson Wentz’s arrival

The Indianapolis Colts have their new quarterback in Carson Wentz and while he gets acclimated with the team, it seems he will be finding a new jersey number to wear.

Wentz has worn No. 11 since he got to North Dakota State. He kept the number when he was selected with the No. 2 overall pick by the Philadelphia Eagles in the 2016 NFL draft. But now he comes to the Colts, who already have a No. 11 in wide receiver Michael Pittman Jr.

The second-year wideout said on Good Morning Football that he will be keeping No. 11 and that he and Wentz already spoke about it.

“He actually texted me about two hours after the news broke, and he just asked me how I felt about it, and I told him that I was gonna stay, and he said that that was cool and that he would switch numbers, and it was that easy,” Pittman said on Monday. “I mean, he was a chill guy about it, so that was awesome.”

Sometimes incoming players can buy a number that is currently being worn by an existing member of the team. But it doesn’t appear Pittman Jr. has a price on the jersey number.

It’s happened before with the Colts. We saw Justin Houston give up No. 99 to DeForest Buckner, which was after Houston tried to pry away No. 50 from Anthony Walker. It turns out that Houston wound up getting No. 50 while Walker switched to No. 54 for the 2020 season.

It will be interesting to see what number Wentz lands on as the new quarterback, but Pittman Jr. is set on keeping No. 11.
