Michael Jordan Dream Team jersey sells for staggering markup over original selling price
Somebody made a sweet profit on some Michael Jordan gear.
On the same day the premiere of ESPN’s “The Last Dance” documentary proved a resounding hit, a signed Jordan Dream Team jersey sold for $216,000, according to Robert Edward Auctions.
The original selling price? $17,500 at a 1992 charity auction conducted by the The Michael Jordan Foundation, according to REA.
That was when Jordan was merely a two-time NBA champion and two-time gold-medal winning superstar rather than a certified basketball deity. But the jersey has sold since, as recently as 2013, according to the auction house. The price then was $53,325, demonstrating that the appetite for Jordan gear continues to intensify.
Jordan nostalgia is red-hot
Jordan nostalgia is peaking around the documentary and the absence of the NBA amid the COVID-19 pandemic, which possibly played a role in the six-figure selling price for the collectible.
The item is Jordan’s No. 9 USA jersey that he wore during the 1992 Olympics in Barcelona and had a starting bid of $25,000. It’s signed by Jordan with an inscription reading “Best Wishes.”

REA cites research claiming that Jordan wore the jersey against Argentina, Lithuania, Canada and in the gold medal game against Croatia in Barcelona.
The purchaser was not identified. But somebody with money to burn just added a sweet piece of basketball history to his or her collection.
