Micah Hyde explains makeover in Bills locker room since his arrival

The changes around the Buffalo Bills since head coach Sean McDermott arrived have been massive. The growth mindset of McDermott has helped the Bills’s image in the league change to a trendy pick to win the AFC East this year.

Along with McDermott, safety Micah Hyde arrived in Buffalo in 2017 via free agency after starting his career with the Packers. The Bills do not have the same history on their side as the Pack. But Hyde recentlyvia video conference that he sees the changes happen all around the Bills locker room which signaling to him that it’s out with the same ol’ Bills and hopefully onto a new direction for the organization.

“I think last year we moved in the right direction but looking around this locker room now, Tre’Davious (White) and I counted how many guys were here with us in 2017. If you count the drafted guys and the guys that signed that year, it’s like seven or eight guys that are still in the building,” Hyde said.

Of course, it wasn’t all easy, Hyde admitted as he referenced his second season with the Bills.

“We had some down years around here, mostly in 2018,” Hyde said.

Still, in a few short years, Buffalo rebuilt the shambled roster over the past three and a half years, as general manager Brandon Beane molded the team into a group which McDermott can maximize their potential. Even from the 2018 season, there’s a silver lining: Quarterback Josh Allen’s growth.

But to get to that point, the team had to buy into the famous “process” that McDermott and Beane spoke of so often when the arrived to One Bills Drive. Now, Hyde sees a chance for the Bills to take things to the next level.

“We had to go through the process together, looking around and seeing the fresh faces, and fresh bodies, knowing that we have a shot. We have a shot,” Hyde said. “I’m not saying that it’s going to come easy, there’s going to be some adversity during the season, not to mention everyone going through this pandemic stuff right now.”

Even with the ongoing pandemic mentioned by Hyde, expect the safety to go the way his coach has mentioned once again. All throughout this crazy offseason, McDermott has referenced the Bills will only worry about… the Bills.

“We control what we can control. That’s got to be our mindset and that’s how we attack it,” the coach said as recently as Monday.

Buffalo’s locker room is in a perfect position to deal with the roller coaster of emotions in the NFL. Only four years ago, this was far from the norm. Hyde and the Bills’ core will be vital in accomplishing that goal
