The Miami University RedHawks' football team announced Monday that injured starting quarterback Brett Gabbert will return to MU for next season.

Gabbert underwent surgery after suffering a season-ending leg injury against Toledo.

Backup Aveon Smith, who was 5-0 as the RedHawks' starting QB over the next five games, announced Monday that he's entering the transfer portal as a grad transfer with two years of eligibility remaining.

Miami also announced Monday that Mid-American Conference Defensive Player of the Year Matt Salopek also will return to the RedHawks, as will top receiver Gage Larvadain.

On Tuesday, the RedHawks announced that offensive lineman Reid Holskey and linebacker Ty Wise will return for the 2024 season, in addition to tight end and former CovCath standout Jack Coldiron.

Also, head coach Chuck Martin was named one of 12 finalists nationwide for the Eddie Robinson National Coach of The Year award.

The RedHawks are scheduled to meet Appalachian State in the Cure Bowl on Saturday, December 16 in Orlando, with the game televised on ABC.
