Miami Heat's Erik Spoelstra, Tyler Herro discuss Suns' Big 3, rookie Jaime Jaquez Jr.

The Miami Heat's head coach Erik Spoelstra, top scorer Tyler Herro, and the team's two-time Eastern Conference Rookie of the Month Jaime Jaquez Jr., spoke Friday during the team's shootaround prior to their 7 p.m. game against the Phoenix Suns at Footprint Center. Here's a rundown of some topics they discussed, including the Suns' Big 3 of Devin Booker, Kevin Durant and Bradley Beal.

Herro on playing against his friend and fellow former Kentucky star Devin Booker

"From Kentucky to one-and-done, they continue to build something great out there in Phoenix with Book, KD, and Beal now. So just coming in and I just want to be aggressive. We’re really just here to compete. We’ve been on a long road trip, so we should be able to finish this road trip off right."

Spoelstra praising Suns coach Frank Vogel, building chemistry with Big 3:

"Frank has a great deal of experience with that. What I see is what it looks like when they’re all out there on the court, the four games that they have been out there, they’ve been pretty explosive offensively. That’s not a surprise at all. Those guys are so skilled and they’re willing passers. All their assists numbers are very impressive."

Spoelstra on his former Heat assistant coach, current Suns assistant David Fizdale

“I think it’s great. He can do either. He can be in this role (as head coach) where he has championship-level experience dealing with a lot of different dynamics, personalities, and helping getting guys on the same page. And I do think at this point of his career he’s a great mentor to players, but helping a coaching staff connect and maximize each other’s talents. But he also is skilled enough that he can be in the front office, and that’s not the route he wants to go right now. It’s a good thing to have in this business is a lot of versatility and a lot of respect because of how he’s been able to fit in, complement, and add value to every staff he’s been on.”

On Heat rookie Jaquez Jr. winning second straight Eastern Conference Rookie of the Month award

Herro: “Jaime’s a great player. People underestimate being in college for three or four years. You’re able to develop and really get those big game experiences, so he’s ready for this challenge, and he’s been doing a great job for us on both sides of the ball. Just really excited for his growth."

Spoelstra: “It’s definitely impressive, and the most important thing is his play has impacted winning. (Miami was 20-14, fourth in the Eastern Conference entering Friday's game). He’s earned his minutes because it’s impacted winning. It’s a good nod. We didn’t mention it today. It’s not something that we’re going to celebrate, but it’s nice to have a young player ready to help us win in that way.”

Jaquez's memories playing for UCLA against Arizona State, his Arizona family connections

“I had a lot of great battles here against ASU. I got a lot of family here as well that lives in Arizona. Every time I come out here, it feels like a second home. I visit my aunts and uncles and my cousins who all live out here, so it’s great to come back.”
