Miami Dolphins predictions: Here's how NFL experts are picking the Patriots game in Week 2

The Miami Dolphins take their high-flying offense to prime time on Sunday. Will Tua Tagovailoa, Tyreek Hill and company look as good against Bill Belichick and the New England Patriots as they did in Week 1?

The 2023 season opened with a bang for coach Mike McDaniel and the Dolphins, who won a 36-34 shootout against the Los Angeles Chargers. Trailing by 4 with less than 4 minutes to go, Tagovailoa led a 75-yard drive that featured a 47-yard bomb to Hill, who finished the drive with a 4-yard TD catch. The speedster had 215 yards on the day, while Tua put up 466 yards and three scores.

Perhaps more impressive: The Dolphins much-maligned offensive line held a defense led by Joey Bosa and Khalil Mack without a sack, and they did it without Pro Bowl tackle Terron Armstead. Miami would love to have him back against the Patriots, who kept the Philadelphia Eagles in check during a 25-20 Week 1 loss and sacked Jalen Hurts three times. Quarterback Mac Jones looked promising in the loss, throwing for 316 yards and three TDs in the rain against the defending NFC champs.

Who wins on Sunday Night Football? Here's a look at predictions by NFL experts and analysts across the nation:

Lorenzo Reyes, USA TODAY: Dolphins 27-21

"Miami’s offense, as long as Tua Tagovailoa is balling out like that, has the potential to be the most prolific in the NFL. Tyreek Hill can score on any given play. The Dolphins' defense is a work in progress but New England’s offense struggled with turnovers and Mac Jones was inaccurate on a few throws. Also, Tagovailoa is 4-0 in his career against Bill Belichick and the Patriots."

Vinnie Iyer, Sporting News: Dolphins 27-24

"Miami's offense is something that can drive New England's defense batty with its pure emphasis on getting its fastest players in open field (see Tyreek Hill and more Tyreek Hill) for Mike McDaniel. The Patriots' offense can't test the Dolphins' Jalen Ramsey-less secondary well without much in the receiving corps. Tagovailoa is playing on point and can outduel his old college teammate Mac Jones with less pressure and more juice around him."

Maurice Moton, Bleacher Report: Dolphins 28-24

"While Patriots quarterback Mac Jones played well in his first game with Bill O'Brien as his offensive coordinator, throwing for 316 yards, three touchdowns and an interception, the Patriots won't be able to keep pace with Tagovailoa, Tyreek Hill, Jaylen Waddle and the Dolphins' prolific aerial attack. Miami wins by a field goal."

Mike Florio, Pro Football Talk: Dolphins 28-23

"The Dolphins are just too good, on both sides of the ball."

Dan Parr, NFL.com: Dolphins 24-17

"Perhaps Bill Belichick can find a way to slow down the Dolphins' passing game a bit, but enough for his offense to have a chance to win the game? I'm not buying it. The Patriots don't have the explosiveness to match up with even a somewhat-contained Miami attack, and I expect Vic Fangio to take full advantage of an injury-plagued New England offensive line."

Bill Bender, Sporting News: Dolphins 24-21

"The Dolphins have a chance to put the Patriots in a 0-2 hole, and the difference will be the passing game. Patriots coach Bill Belichick will try to take away Tyreek Hill, and it will work to some extent. The difference in these teams' games last year was turnovers. Which teams protects the ball in a tight game?"

Pete Prisco, CBS Sports: Patriots 24-23

"Miami is coming off a high-flying offensive victory against the Chargers. Tua Tagovailoa was outstanding in that game. The Patriots lost to the Eagles, but the defense played well. That defense will keep them in this game as they slow down the high-flying Dolphins to win it late. Upset special."
