Who is starting for the Mets?

Tylor Megill will climb the hill for the home team to get this one started in the top of the first inning.

Megill has been roughed up as of late since he returned to the big league club after being demoted to Triple-A in late June. In six starts after being optioned, he pitched to an 8.67 ERA (26 runs in 27.0 innings).

In his first two starts of August, the 28-year-old has pitched to a 9.00 ERA (4.97 FIP) over 10.0 innings with opponents posting a .391 average and 1.026 OPS against him.

Earlier this year, the Pirates got to Megill for a career-high nine runs (seven earned) on eight hits with three walks over 3.2 innings in Pittsburgh.

This will be Megill's 18th start of the campaign, which ties a career-high for him. On the season he has surrendered 60 runs (51 earned) on 98 hits over 81.1 innings pitched for a 5.64 ERA (5.08 FIP) with a 1.697 WHIP. The tall right-hander has given up 11 homers and issued 40 free passes on the year while tallying 64 strikeouts.

This will be Megill's 10th start in a day game this season, he has pitched to a 4.68 ERA over 42.1 innings in the sunlight.

Who is starting for the Pirates?

Pittsburgh will start Johan Oviedo as they look to edge out the Mets from a series win and a .500 homestand.

The Pirates' righty was having a good stretch, allowing just two earned runs over three starts in 20.0 innings pitched (0.90 ERA, 3.02 FIP), but that streak ended his last time out on Aug. 11. Oviedo allowed six runs on five hits with two walks and three HBP over 5.0 innings against Cincinnati.

Back in June, he was outduelled by Kodai Senga and took the loss when he allowed two runs on four hits with two walks and five strikeouts over 6.1 innings against the Mets.

The 25-year-old is making his 25th start on the season and has pitched to a 4.42 ERA (4.28 FIP) with a 1.306 WHIP, allowing 71 runs (67 earned) on 122 hits over 136.1 innings pitched. He has conceded 14 home runs and walked 56 batters but struck out 121 for an 8.0 Ks per nine innings rate.

And to drive manager Buck Showalter crazy, he is tied for tops in the National League with 10 hit batters.

Upcoming schedule

New York will hit the road for a seven-game road trip with four in St. Louis over the weekend before playing three in Atlanta. They won't return to Queens until Friday, Aug. 25 for a three-game set against  Shohei Ohtani's Angels side.

The Mets open the road trip on Thursday night at 7:15 p.m. on Fox with left-hander Jose Quintana (0-4, 3.03 ERA) on the mound against the Cardinals' veteran right-hander Adam Wainwright (3-7, 8.78 ERA).
