  • At 40 years and 73 days old, Justin Verlander will become the oldest pitcher to debut for the Mets since Rich Hill in 2021 (41 years, 136 days)

  • Verlander will make his fifth career start against the team that drafted him. He pitched a complete game against the Tigers in his last outing against them, though the Houston Astros lost, 2-1

  • Francisco Alvarez is hitting .286 with a home run, three RBI and three runs scored over his last 10 games

Who is starting for the Mets?

Justin Verlander, who is making his first start of the season after beginning the year on the IL with a teres major injury. A future Hall-of-Famer, Verlander is coming off one of the best seasons of his illustrious career, posting a career-best 1.75 ERA as he earned his third Cy Young Award.

Verlander made five starts for the Mets this spring, pitching to a 3.00 ERA with 22 strikeouts in 21 innings pitched.

Who is starting for the Tigers?

Eduardo Rodriguez, who owns a 2.21 ERA over six starts this season.

The lefty has been particularly good in his last four starts, going 26.2 innings while allowing just two earned runs (0.68 ERA) to go with 24 strikeouts and three walks.
