Mets signing reliever Kyle Crick to minor league deal with spring training invite: report

The Mets are signing right-handed reliever Kyle Crick to a minor league deal that contains an invite to major league spring training, reports Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic.

Crick, 31, had his 2022 season cut short due to an elbow injury and did not pitch in the majors in 2023.

He had a 4.02 ERA and 1.34 WHIP with 19 strikeouts in 15.2 innings over 14 appearances for the White Sox in 2022.

During his six-year career, which has also included stints with the Giants and Pirates, Crick has a 3.56 ERA and 1.32 WHIP with 201 strikeouts in 187.1 innings over 194 appearances -- all in relief.

Crick is a two-pitch reliever who relies heavily on a slider that hovers around 80 mph. He also features a fastball that sits a tick above 92 mph.

The Mets, in serious need of external arms to bolster a bullpen that is expected to include Edwin Diaz, Brooks Raley, and Drew Smith, have not yet signed a reliever to a guaranteed big league deal.

In addition to adding Crick on a minor league pact, New York signed right-handed reliever Austin Adams to a one-year, non-guaranteed split contract on Thursday.
