Mets signing OF Trayce Thompson to minor league deal with spring training invite
The Mets are signing outfielder Trayce Thompson to a minor league deal with an invite to spring training, according to SNY MLB Insider Andy Martino.
Thompson, 32, has bounced around several big league teams since getting his first MLB action in 2015. He appeared in 72 games in 2023 with the Los Angeles Dodgers and Chicago White Sox, and slashed .163/.285/.294 for a .579 OPS (58 OPS+) with six home runs and 17 RBI in 179 plate appearances.
He has experience at all three outfield positions, with the majority of his time last season coming in center field. In his big league career, Thompson has split his time in the outfield evenly. He played 890.0 innings in right, 796.1 in center and 605.1 in left.
Thompson had better success in 2022 when he batted .268, and posted a .901 OPS (149 OPS+) with 13 homers and 39 RBI in 239 plate appearances over 74 games with the Dodgers, after an unsuccessful six-game stint with the San Diego Padres.
In 369 total games, Thompson has a career .212/.300/.411 slashline with a .711 OPS and 93 OPS+.
He is the younger brother of Golden State Warriors guard Klay Thompson.
