Mets have reportedly received 'at least one' inquiry on ‘highly regarded’ pitching coach Jeremy Hefner

The Mets are currently in the process of finding their next manager, but the club's future at the pitching coach position could also be up in the air.

According to a report from Mike Puma of the New York Post, the Mets have received “at least one inquiry” from an opposing team about Jeremy Hefner’s availability. However, other teams have been told that Hefner is waiting to see “if he fits in the Mets’ plans” before deciding on any other open positions.

SNY MLB Insider Andy Martino reported earlier on Wednesday that other clubs are under the impression that coaches from the 2023 Mets are “basically available to be interviewed and hired." That being said, Hefner “wouldn’t be so easy to get permission to talk to” because he is in a different category due to how highly regarded he is around the game.

Hefner, 37, was hired as Mets pitching coach in December 2019. Prior to that, he was an advance scout for the Minnesota Twins for two seasons before becoming their assistant pitching coach for the 2019 season.

Hefner has twice led the Mets to sub-4.00 team ERAs during his four years with the club (2021, 2022).
