Mets-Marlins postponed due to rain, will play doubleheader Wednesday

The Mets‘ final homestand of the season is off to a dreary start with the postponement of the series opener against the Miami Marlins. The game will be played Wednesday at 4:10 p.m., ET as part of a single-admission doubleheader.

Gates will open at 3:10 p.m., and the second game will begin approximately 30 minutes after the first.

Three days of rain from Tropical Storm Ophelia soaked the playing surface at Citi Field. The Mets were very transparent with fans and announced a delayed start time hours before the slated 7:10 start time. The grounds crew removed the tarp around 4 p.m. and began applying Diamond Dry. However, the field was not able to dry out in time and the conditions were deemed unplayable.

Left-hander Joey Lucchesi was set to oppose left-hander Braxton Garrett. Should the pitching matchups remain the same, Kodai Senga will start the nightcap, making his final start of the season. The Marlins have not announced a pitcher for the second game.

Tickets for the Tuesday night game will not be valid for the makeup game. Fans who held paid tickets will receive a digital voucher loaded into their My Mets Tickets account and will be accessible Wednesday morning. Tickets purchased from SeatGeek or StubHub will receive a digital voucher, but fans who purchased tickets from any other secondary market will not be compensated.

The Mets are coming off a sweep at the hands of the Philadelphia Phillies over the weekend. The Phillies will come to Citi Field for the final time this season on Friday night for the final three games of the regular season. The Phillies have an NL Wild Card spot locked up.

Prior to losing four in Philadelphia, the Mets won two of three in Miami. The Marlins are still alive in the Wild Card race and stand one game behind the Chicago Cubs and Arizona Diamondbacks.
