Mets have had 'renewed talks' with pitcher Julio Teheran
With the Mets’ starting pitching depth already being tested just three games into the season, the club continues to consider adding a veteran arm.
According to SNY MLB Insider Andy Martino, the Mets have had “renewed talks” with right-hander Julio Teheran.
The 33-year-old Teheran, who opted out of his contract with the Baltimore Orioles after not making the Opening Day roster, appeared in 14 games (11 starts) for the Milwaukee Brewers last season, pitching to a 4.40 ERA.
Martino notes that the Mets finished second to the Orioles this spring when it came to signing the righty.
Prior to last season, Teheran hadn’t thrown a pitch in the majors since making one start with the Detroit Tigers in 2021. A shoulder injury then sidelined him for nearly two years.
Overall, Teheran has made 254 major league appearances, pitching to a 3.83 ERA.
The Mets need all the help they can get right now, with Tylor Megill on the IL with a right shoulder strain and ace Kodai Senga also out.
